Figure enhancement, bouquet update

One of the tricks in having a 1950s style dress is to find some way to have a 1950s style waist. Besides the whole exercise and diet plan, (the diet going much better than the exercise right now, unfortunately), the other tool I was planning on using was control wear-- the serious stuff. Yesterday, I went shopping and bought Spanx (http://www.spanx.com/pls/enetrixp/!stmenu_template.main?complex_id_in=477024.488695.686135.681433.page) for my immediate needs. I chose the Higher Power version to slim my mid-section (and a full skirt means nobody's going to be very aware of my lower contours), but I've also been thinking about getting a corset.
Modern corsetry fascinates me, as does the aristry of a good custom piece, but I'm not sure whether to spend the money... there is always that argument that a corset can be worn for a long time, not just the wedding. Balancing budget issues, the quick fix might be something like this waist cincher from Dark Garden, which is also available as a ready-to-wear rather than custom piece:

I'd be interested in any opinions on corset wearing (which for me, will be under the dress, although overdress looks are also very pretty)
BOUQUET!
Also, in my craftiness last night, I made what I think is closer to a bouquet.. I want to add one more flower, but this is what I have:

Will this work? I'm going to email the girls in the bridal party to get their feedback today too...
Process: I wrapped styrofoam with a decorator silk and pinned it with pearl pins. The styrofoam cone was hot glued to a half circle of styrofoam, which I pasted the same base silk too (with rice paste). Once dry (2 days), I hot glued the fringe trim (leftover from a Halloween mermaid costume) around as the "moss" base. I made two more kanzashi flowers from the decorator silk, but then glued them on here. I also will glue the feather butterfly on, but it's perched in the picture.
SHOE UPDATE!
Thanks to everyone for all the shoe advice! I received my shoes from Zappos less than 48 hours after ordering, and I also received the fabric sample for the blue sash on my dress... based on the color difference (although I need to give them another look in natural light), I may be returning the peeptoes in favor of the mary jane style (if browsing this weekend doesn't yield a darker navy peeptoe). Either way, I'm very impressed with Zappos.com excellent service!
