So... Friday night we picked up the chocolate chips. The store only had a chocolate/carmel combo chip in the premium quality chocolate, but having tried this, I've now gotta say that I'm going to switch and make half of these with milk chocolate and the other half with dark chocolate but absolute none with carmel chocolate. It yields a funky color. Here are the results-- next time, I will be more precise in fully filling the molds and in tapping the molds a bit more (I was too cautious) to get the remaining bits of air bubbles out... all in all, they look pretty decent for a lazy trial effort...

After that, I turned my focus to the garter. My process was to take two large navy ribbons, and sew them together lengthwise to make a channel. I then sewed the top piece of lace, which has geometric square cut-outs. I then sewed the edges of the more delicate circle-patterned lace on each side of that. Finally, I sewed a midori ribbon (Prussian blue) to cover the seam where the channel set middle section met each delicate lace piece. The resulting band looks like this:

I then made the pocket by fusing two pieces of polyester together with stitch witchery, folding and sealing the edges (more stitch witchery), folding the piece over into a pocket shape and marking where to put snaps, sewing on the snaps, ironing on the patch, sewing the edges that didn't fuse well, and then sewing the outside seam of the pocket. It would be faster and easier with a machine, but I did all of the sewing by hand (no sewing machine right now)...The result was this:

So then I tried a test with the elastic I have but I will need to purchase wider elastic (which will help make the gather more even from top to bottom). I will sew the pocket on after the elastic is gathered. Until then, here are two pics of the pinned and tied trial.. I may move the attachment point of the patch down (so the patch hangs lower relative to the band) but I have not decided:
