Cake topper; guest sign-in pen holder

I had two small projects for tonight, other than a bit of continued work cutting up pieces of paper that will be used for the pew decorations (so that is not too time consuming later).
1. Paint the hair color on the cake topper.
I was originally going to use model paint, and if I was patient, I think that was the better choice (for those of you out there thinking of doing the same). However, I was already in the art supply store.... I picked up some acrylic paint (a burnt sienna and a black, to mix into a dark brown color). The good thing about this is that I may actually reuse these colors later!

I then perused the racks of tiny brushes before picking one of the craft brushes. No need for anything super fancy:

I carefully covered the original light brown hair on the bride and groom with my mixed dark brown color... and then I improvised and lengthened the hair a bit! My fiance doesn't have anything like the short hair style of the original, but I couldn't quite capture his hair as it really is... this is a bit of a compromise.

2. Make a penholder for the fabric pens that guests will use to sign in on our guest tablecloth (that serves as our guest book)..
I used leftover bookcloth from the pew decoration project (the square bases), some paper scraps from the stationery (I'm saving all large paper scraps), and some ribbon (both Midori and leftover ribbon from the flower girl headband project). I first used adhesive to cover the outside and inside of an old tea bag package (One of the Republic of Tea tea tins).. then I took my strip of decorative paper and folded it over the top (cutting the inside edge railroad style so it would set a bit better). To cover my raw edges, I took my adhesive /tape runner and coated the large ribbon for the inside and the smaller Midori ribbon for the outside edge.
Here are the finished pics:

So... Someday soon I will get started on the invitations (for real)... but I've slowed down for the moment.
