My mom came to visit as promised, so we took her to the Grand Bohemian, and she definitely liked it. Fell in love with the atmosphere and all that class, is more like it! Luckily, we got one or two more details from Traci, one of the event staff who was more knowledgeable about GB's weddings. There was one scheduled for the late afternoon, but we were able to see one of the hotel suites, the rooftop location and part of the ballroom. (We ran into the mother of the 5:30 bride twice in the elevator!)
Mom was held up coming from Brooksville, so we cut out the visit to the Citrus Club in favor of lunch at Fiddler's Green in Winter Park. Then we took a drive over to the Hard Rock Hotel, just to look around for ourselves, before the appointment on Monday afternoon. Will was pretty quiet about the whole thing, but he's getting over a cold, so that was expected. He had a decent time with mom, and he liked HRH, as I did. However, we need more details from them, too, before we can narrow down anything. Might seem like a lot to be rushing into when we're two years out, but any and all info we can get for now will be beneficial, especially once we're both in school again, and squeezing in studying, planning and working all together.
There's still one hotel that hasn't gotten back to us, and a few options on the west coast that we could consider, but I think Mom is already sold on the idea of an Orlando wedding. Being downtown in the middle of the hustle and bustle helped, but so did other factors(transportation and airports, etc). 'Course, it doesn't hurt that she's always liked big cities, and she likes the idea of a classy, elegant wedding as much as we do. (Well, as elegant as it can be with our budget.. but I really think with some work, we can pull it off.)
Actually, we all love the Grand Bohemian; as far as I know, it would be totally unique to us, at least within my circle of friends. I don't know anyone who's being married there, or has had a wedding there yet. It would definitely be something to remember. As Mom put it, this is our only wedding. Will and I are in this for the long haul, so there are no second chances, and we should do something with "Val and Will" written all over it! (Both sets of parents have been divorced, Mom most recently, so her feelings make sense. Their sagas combined would merit another whole entry, though. Maybe later.)
Anyway, yesterday was a great day, planning-wise. Not so hot for Auburn football. . but don't get me started. That would become a whole other blog too!
