Chronicling our adventures post-engagement, and beyond...

Ducks in a row...

Today I got an email back from the Hard Rock coordinator(Jessica) telling me we've been approved for The Pantry as our reception space, and that she will draw up the contract as soon as we're ready. (We originally wanted the Avalon Ballroom, even though we were well below the guest minimum, but The Pantry is better(cost-wise) and more cozy, since we only have 75 guests in mind. This is awesome! We can give the deposit check and work out a payment schedule for everything else now...so if all goes well, by the time the wedding's actually here, we won't have to worry so much about finances. We're not even the earliest couple to book: Jessica's already got someone looking for a Hard Rock wedding in 2010--whew!

Speaking of good news, we sat down last night and sketched out a rough seating chart while we watched "Everest: Beyond the Limit". I always heard it's tough, and all the people who mentioned that.. well, they were right! I had to do some real thinking when it came to who sits where, even though it was only a first draft(Grandma can't sit next to my Dad because she's still angry at him over the divorce, etc etc). Once I worked all the kinks out, the actual process went more smoothly than I expected, though. Thanks to the seating estimate from Hard Rock, and our lovely coordinator's computer skills, Will and I could just write numbers in the chair spaces. (We chose to divide the tables between us, and then number each guest in order of importance beforehand.)

Also speaking of family, my dad decided to get a little jittery about the finances. He never was the type to pay attention to details--it usually takes something "catastrophic" to wake him up. I told him a little about Hard Rock after we had our last appointment, and all he could think of was money. It's typical of him, but I just wanted to share our excitement. I guess I still need lessons in thinking before I speak, even though I explained to him we'll be paying for most of this ourselves. (I knew from the very beginning that he and Mom wouldn't be able to afford much after the divorce.) Nonetheless, he's the type who should only be given details he really needs to know. He'll examine anything else with a fine-toothed comb if we let him.

So.. my dad is one of those ducks who needs to be brought down to earth every now and then. We'll just have to "readjust" his thinking every now and then.  Other than his minor freak-outs, though, all other ducks are in a row for now. Makes us happy.
