The Wedding $$ Jar

Posted Monday, January 21, 2008 9:55 PM

I started a Wedding Money Jar in December, mostly for "just-in-case" circumstances. Will and I have both been dropping change and small bills into it, and it's already half full!

When it gets truly stuffed, I'll take it to Coinstar, turn the change into cash, and deposit that in our wedding fund--which I've also started. (Both are my peace of mind..just knowing that the bulk of our wedding budget is safely squirreled away, but this will be there if something unexpected comes up, etc etc.) I hope it really grows in the year or so we have left!

Now, if I can just keep Will's greedy hands off the jar--he keeps wanting to use it for Chinese takeout and pizza! Wink

**Knottie note: Since I posted this we've reached a compromise. If there are any dollar bills in the Jar, we can use them, but if whatever we buy yields change(coins), it goes right back in Yes Yes

We have one too, but the hole is too small for him to fit his hands in to take out of the jar!  We plan on using it to do FUN STUFF on the honeymoon.

A GREAT way to save money -- especially for those tight on money -- Never spend another dollar bill again -- Save every dollar bill you get! You will have money saved quick!

Don't take your money to Coinstar.  They charge you to sort and roll it.  Save money by doing it yourselves.  You can do it together and make a "date" out of it!  Get some change rolls from the bank next time you run in.  Oh, and I've heard of people putting money into an empty, dry wine bottle, that way you have to break the bottle to get your money out.  That's a great idea, especially for just-in-case or honeymoon fun!
