Edible Faux Bois

Posted Wednesday, July 06, 2011 2:46 PM

You may have seen faux bois patterns popping up in trendy wedding stationery, but have you seen it on a cake? I spotted this petite cake by Frills Cake Shop, located in Denver, rocking wood grain-textured fondant. Accented with edible flowers to match your color scheme, this cake would be a stand-out on any cake table or serving double duty as both cake and centerpiece.

Looking for your ideal wedding venue? I'm loving the versatility of Aspen Meadows Resort in Aspen's Roaring Fork Valley. Whether you need space for an informal gathering for 20 or a grand wedding for 400, they offer a variety of event venues, including a 4,235-square-foot ballroom and gorgeous outdoor sites. As an added bonus, the resort is also home to the Doerr-Hosier Center, a Gold certified building by the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED program, the perfect location for a green wedding.

Located on 40 pristine acres against a backdrop of Aspen Mountain and the Roaring Fork River, you'll find the perfect place for a mountainside ceremony, a trendy cocktail reception and a classic ballroom soiree, all in one location.

Old West Rehearsal Dinners

Posted Tuesday, June 21, 2011 3:37 PM

Desperately trying to figure out where to go for your rehearsal dinner? Have the dinner come to you, instead! Choose a backyard, park or other venue and order up a chuckwagon, like Trail Boss's Chuckwagon in Wellington, CO, to serve up rustic cowboy fare. Sure, it may seem a little trite to host a cowboy-themed affair in Colorado, but out-of-state guests will love the Old West flavor and everyone will like the relaxed vibe. If you're feeling brave, try the Mountain Oysters, otherwise choose from a variety of grilled and barbequed meats paired with comfort-food side dishes like macaroni and cheese and fire-roasted corn on the cob. Yum!

Unusual Additions to Centerpieces

Posted Thursday, June 16, 2011 8:12 AM

Don't think that centerpieces are limited to just flowers. Look into using fruits and vegetables as an unexpected way to bring in your color scheme to your reception, or even your bouquet. This free-form arrangement by Plum Sage Flowers in Denver features not only roses and dahlias, but purple grapes and artichokes as well. The interesting contrast in texture is what really makes this work!

Fairytale Wedding for Cancer Patient

Posted Wednesday, April 20, 2011 4:31 PM

Wish Upon a Wedding has helped a Colorado couple forget their worries, if only for a day. On March 12th, Dominique, mother of three and stage 4 breast cancer patient, said "I do" to the love of her life, Miles.

"The future is unknown, it is a blur as it is not made yet," says Dominique. Everyday I worry about Myles being a single father, I worry that my kids will lose me sooner rather than later," she says. "Being able to have a wedding that is so long coming without any of the financial stress or struggle to plan is a dream."

The couple was married at The Ritz-Carlton Denver with all of their wedding services being donated by local vendors.

Wish Upon a Wedding provides weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness or other serious life-altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation. If you would like to know more, become involved or donate, go to their Facebook page or check out WishUponaWedding.org.
