For our favors, I am thinking of doing a few things that really don't cost a whole lot each, but are a little different (or maybe not!). My favorite candy has always been Rock Candy. So, I am thinking of ordering Swizzle Sticks in white (which are individually packaged), asking my mom & grandmother to make a bunch of Divinity (which is his favorite candy) and we will individually package these (this can be done in advance....not last minute) and tying everything together with a thank you note with our pictures on it. It will take a little work, but pretty much everything else is being handled by the venue. And I know my mom & grammy can whip up the candy quickly (they make it every year during the holidays!).

My favorite, local baker quoted me a cake that will serve 100 guests, for $270. I don't think this is a bad price at all. Especially since I know how wonderful their cakes taste! This is for a buttercream frosted cake (I hate fondant!). The frosting can be any color of my choice. This also includes any flavor of filling (if we want it), any design that we want on the cake (as long as it's buttercream and not fondant for the design work), and I think that's it. Delivery & set-up is not more than $50. So, I am excited because this is cheaper than what I thought it would be.
So, I am thinking of having a simple round tiered cake, with white buttercream frosting, black ribbon around the bottom of each tier, with dots all around the bottom of the ribbon, and our last initial in black on the center tier OR a cake topper in silver with our last initial. I can't quite decide if I want to save the money and not get a cake topper or not.

Since the venue that we chose, provides linens in white, ivory and champagne, I am highly considering having my bridal party wear black dresses, black heels, and then jewelry sets (which I will purchase and give to them as part of their gift from me) for the wedding, and then let them put on black flip-flops during the reception (I know how killer heels are considering I wear them every stinking day to work!). I will have my best friend as my Matron of Honor, my sister will be next in line, my other very good friend will be next, and then my niece (who will be 16 by the time of the wedding) will be next. My youngest niece (who will be 5, almost 6 because her birthday is later that month) will be the flower girl. Since all of the bridesmaids, except for 1, are big busted and a little "heavy", I am thinking of asking them to find a dress that is solid black, something that covers the chest and something that is knee length. My reasoning for this is because my Matron of Honor, AKA - my best friend of 21 years, was in her mothers wedding this past July and for some reason the girls picked out hot pink dresses that were strapless, showed a lot of cleavage, were very short....and as much as I love my best friend and her sister (who was also in the wedding)....the dresses did not flatter either of them AT ALL! I, being myself, pointed this out after they were out of the dresses. They both agreed. Apparently, their mother threw a fit for them to get those dresses. So, they finally said ok. But the hated them. ANYWAYS, so I think that is what I will have my bridal party go with. Of course, the flower girl will wear a white dress like me. We might look for something where she can have a little bit of either black or champagne in her dress for a little "pop". I also figure that the black dress will be good for my girls so that they can re-wear them for special occasions where a "little black dress" is needed. Below is a picture of one of my favorites from David's Bridal....

I think that we may have found a venue for sure. I had my heart set on a place that is local and absolutely gorgeous for outdoor weddings (not to mention WAY under our budget). But after learning that the venue does not have a place indoors in case of rain, I started looking at other venues that aren't too far away. I found one that is about 30 minutes from where we live (which is the same area that most of our guests are from) and it is so beautiful. We will be able to have the ceremony outdoors (which is what I want) and the reception indoors (which is what he wants). And, if it is rainy, we are able to move the ceremony indoors. The place is decorated beautifully and their package, which is in our budget, is all inclusive EXCEPT for any additional flowers (like the bouquets, bouts. etc) and the photographer. EVERYTHING else is included. The photos look absolutely gorgeous and we are going to go look at it in person when my fiance is home for Christmas vacation (he is out of town working right now).

I found "the one" last night. I wasn't even going to go try on dresses yet. I was going to wait until after the first of the year. But, my fiance is out of town working right now, and I had absolutely nothing to do all day. So, I went and started looking at dresses. I went to the first bridal salon, and the consultant that was paired with me seemed a tad bit scattered, and she wasn't very attentive. It wouldn't have been a big deal, but I was by myself, so I definitely needed somebody with me to help me with zippers and what not. She was very nice, and after about 20 minutes of her going back and forth between me and I'm not quite sure what else she was doing, she was finally all mine for the rest of the time. I tried on at least 10 dresses. I found one that I was in love with, but it was over my budget. I really don't want to spend more than $400 on a dress. I have a really hard time spending more than that on something that I will only wear once in my life, for a few hours. I do want something flattering for sure. And something that I will love looking at for years to come in our wedding photos. But I still don't want to go over $400. So, I told her I would think about it. Then I was passing by David's Bridal, and thought I would stop in and just get a book (I figured it was too late in the day for an appointment). When I got there, the lady up front told me that they had a slot available if I wanted to try some dresses on. 6 or 7 dresses later, I found "the one". It is simple, yet fits perfectly. And it is only $299! I ALMOST went ahead and purchased it. But I want opinions from my mom, sister & best friend first. But I am personally in love with the dress....and the price is AWESOME!

I have been tossing around different theme ideas, and since we both love baseball and are huge Houston Astros fans, I think I might suggest baseball as a theme for our wedding. I think that I can incorporate baseball but still keep it traditional, pretty, etc. I want to use red as the main color anyways, so that wouldn't interfere at all. I have all sorts of ideas for this though - I just hope he likes the ideas :)

I am already getting a tiny bit frustrated with trying to decide on a venue. Our wedding is hopefully going to be October of 2010 (it depends on if the venue we do agree on has the date open). I personally want the ceremony outside for sure. I don't care whether the reception is inside or outside, but I do want it at the same location as the ceremony. I have found a couple of places, but they aren't quite fitting in the budget. Our budget is $10,000. Our guest count is about 80. The area that we live in ranges in price big time. I personally would like to have it at 1 of 2 golf courses in our area. I am waiting on pricing for catering, facility fees, etc. from both places. He is saying that he doesn't want it at one of the golf courses, because a friend of his just got married there. My opinion on this is that I don't care who has had their wedding there lately, our wedding isn't for another year. SO, I am waiting on the pricing to come back and then I will sit down with him and figure out which is a better option.
