WTF is that supposed to mean?

This weekend while visiting with the FILs, FI is approached by a client of FMILs when he's sitting in the "main office" the lady walks in, says hello, then says "So, is the wedding still on?"

What the heck kind of question is that?! FI didn't even know who this lady is! We don't live in the area and don't visit often, so it's not like she's seen him around and could recognize him very easy. I'm actually still trying to figure out how this lady who knew who FI was because there aren't any pictures of him around the office.

I was totally shocked when I over heard this woman (I was in the next room over where she was unable to see me through the open door from where she was standing). Even FI who usually doesn't take notice to these sorts of things was surprised by her question. Why would you ask that? If you were curious about the wedding plans why wouldn't you just ask "How's the planning coming?" And if you really were just asking if the wedding was even still on, why not ask it in a more positive manner that will still get you the same answer and not make you look like an idiotic b!tch? Sometimes I really don't understand people. However, I understood very clearly that this woman has absolutely no tact!
