This isn't your typical cruise -- beginning in January, 2008, you can tour the Amazon River aboard a 140-foot ship through a company called Aqua Expeditions. The tours begin in Iquitos, Peru, and venture into the rain forest and Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, where you're liable to spot Pink Amazon dolphins or black alligators. Each day you can take off-boat excursions with expert naturalists for a close look at the area's ecosystem and wildlife.
The ship itself has 12 lavish suites -- all with large windows facing the water -- and a chef who prepares fine cuisine paired with South American wines. There will be three itineraries from which to choose: a 7-night trip will cost $4,550, a 4-night trip will be $2,600, or you could take a 3-night trip for $1,950. Their website is still in the works, but keep an eye on AquaExpeditions.com for more info.
