Earlier this year South Seas Island Resort reopened after a $140 million renovation, and the property looks pretty great. The resort is on Captiva Island, which is just off of Florida's southwest coast, in the Gulf of Mexico. The plantation-style resort means none of the buildings are overwhelmingly tall, and there is an array of options when you choose your accommodations, from one-bedroom guest rooms to three-bedroom villas. The island has two-and-a-half miles of white sand beaches, and if you're interested in more active pursuits there are 19 tennis courts, a 9-hole golf course, and private fishing excursions.
To get to Captiva Island, the closest airport is Southwest Florida International Airport -- from there it's a 36-mile drive. For more info, check out SouthSeas.com.
