Hidden Retreat in Peru

Posted Wednesday, September 12, 2007 6:35 PM

The Knot Deputy Editor Kathleen Murray just took a trip to Peru, and here's what she had to say:

"I just stayed at an incredible hotel. Now, big disclaimer: when my husband and I got here, we had just finished a 4-day, 3-night hike (read: camping) of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. (Read more about planning a trip to Machu Picchu.) So any place with a bed and a bathroom would have been luxury. But walking up to the Inkaterra Pueblo Hotel I felt like I had gone to heaven.

"The grounds are absolutely stunning; you can just get lost watching the hummingbirds, or visiting the bears (yes bears! -- they have a bear rescue and release program). The spa was modest but totally relaxing -- we got a couples massage to soothe our weary muscles. The food was delicious, and the hotel is located right near the train station. If you're thinking of going to Machu Picchu for your honeymoon (and we met a ton of honeymooners), definitely stay here. The town itself (Aguas Calientes, which is a 30-minute bus ride from Machu Picchu) isn't anything to write home about, but this hotel definitely is."
