Fox-y crush

Posted Thursday, May 31, 2007 10:06 PM

Not wedding related in the faintest bit. Jason and I got into watching old episodes of X-Files. Definitely hooked on the show. I had first seen David Duchovny in a Sex and the City episode, where I thought he was just the cutest thing (even if he did play Carrie’s boyfriend who was in a mental asylum)! So after seeing the X-Files movie (with a sequal due to come on in September 2008!!) and loving it, I wanted to give the series a try.

I have the biggest crush on Fox Mulder. He’s so cute! Yes, I’m aware that there are so many other underlying themes and stuff on the show, blah blah blah. I like the blue eyed boy.

Anyway, today I bought my first piece of David Duchovny memorabilia. By chance I stumbled upon the image of an old Rolling Stone cover shot on Google; Mulder and Scully under a bed sheet. Super hot. After my wonderful husband tried to locate the back issue on Rolling Stone (ain’t happening; the magazine I wanted was dated May of 1996, and Rolling Stone only backdates as far as 1999) we searched E-Bay. Low and behold, there it was (and at the starting asking price of only $0.01)! I got into a bidding war towards the end and won down to the last second. There were 30 bids on it. After shipping, I got it for $17 (not bad since Rolling Stone asks for $20 to order their old issues).

I’m so excited. Makes me wonder if the person I beat was just an X-File fanatic, or another “Spooky-Mulder” admirer. ;0)

So...much...work...

Posted Wednesday, May 30, 2007 11:57 PM

My GAWD! I swear Jason and I have been going non-stop the past two days!! Yesterday we went to the gym, shipped my E-Bay items, drove and hour down to Jacksonville, went to Michael’s, had dinner and finally drove home. We got in around 8:30. This morning, my friend Holly left for Texas (her and her husband were assigned to a new duty station; there were tears), Jason and I completed the remaining 50 of our 90 handmade programs. Not only that, we printed and decorated our rehearsal dinner invites (also sealed and addressed them), decorated our cake table letters, and started pulling out stuff for my trip to California.

I have so much stuff. I actually have to SHIP some of it ahead of me! How diva am I? Ugh. It’s now midnight and we’ve just finished laying everything out. And I mean eeeeeverything. The clothes I’m shipping, the shoes I’m shipping, the clothes I’m taking, the shoes I’m taking, the carry-on-luggage-that-I-have-to-check-because-it-has-“liquids”-luggage, the stuff I’m taking for the wedding, the stuff Jason’s taking for the wedding, the stuff we’re shipping for the wedding. How do destination brides do it?! The only way I’m getting through this is I have a flexible freelance writing job that nets me time off, I have an amazing husband, and I have my mother on the other end to receive all my crap!

Wow this is going to be a busy month.

On a lighter note, we’re fortunate enough to have some amazing friends who are letting us have our wedding gifts delivered to them while we’re gone.

That’s another thing I’m bummed about. Jason’s not joining me until closer to July. :0( I just spent 7 months away from him. 3 weeks is going to be hell. But at least we have a kick ass honeymoon to look forward too. Oh, and yeah, an amazing wedding.

Below: Me and Holly today. Those sunglasses are hiding the tears streaming out of my eyes. It's so strange how you can have so much happiness and so much sadness in your life all at the same time.

Yippee!!

Posted Sunday, May 27, 2007 9:20 PM

I sold my first item on E-Bay today. It was so fun!! After months of no hits on my pocket folders via the Knot, I figured I needed to take a new approach. Being a huge E-Bay whore, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to at least let the invitations sit out there in cyber space. Today was the last day for the listing. When I woke up, I had one person watching the auction. That alone made me happy! A potential buyer—wahoo!

With about 4 hours left she made a bid, my asking price of $45. (Smile) Not long after that, she was countered with another offer of $46. I had 2 bidders! Whee! My day was just getting better and better. With about 5 minutes left in the auction, and the $46 bid still going strong, I ducked out to check in with my Military Brides.

At 20:56 (EST), my Yahoo! Messenger informed me that my item had in fact sold. When I clicked on my new email, the item had sold for $57! I was sorry I missed that bidding war!! I couldn’t believe how much had happened in the last 5 minutes! Not only that, I was lucky enough to have a wonderful E-Bayer who promptly paid me through Paypal. (Big grin) And not that it REALLY matters, but I managed to make $4 more than what I orginally paid for the pocketfolders.

As soon as the post office opens up on Tuesday, I’ll be shipping her invitations. How exciting. Something from my wedding is going towards another bride’s wedding. Sunrise, sunset. ;0)

BTW, I am fully aware of the dorkiness of this blog. But it was my first E-Bay sell. I’m allowed to be dorky.

A copied RSVP...

Posted Thursday, May 03, 2007 8:14 AM

My mom says the most exciting part of her day is running to the mailbox to see if we’ve gotten any RSVP’s. Being 3,000 miles apart, this has become our nightly thing—she calls me up all excited to announce that we’ve gotten X more responses. Yesterday, I happened to be on one of our nightly phone calls with her. She’s reading off yeses, no’s, and telling me how each person spells their legal name (for the base guest list). Then she pauses.

“Oh my Gawd!” I hear her say.

“What? What?” I’m thinking Jason’s parents have said no, along with a rude little comment.

“My sister Pam sent a photo copy of your RSVP and kept the original!!”

Now I’m laughing. My mom had called my aunt sometime last week asking where her RSVP was (my mom’s been hustling everyone for them). My aunt told her she didn’t want to send it in. It was so cute she wanted to keep it! She had told my mom she was going to make a copy and then she’d RSVP. We thought she was keeping the copy!! Not sending it! I got a kick out of that for the rest of the night. Definitely made me feel better about the whole stamp thing.

Invitations are in mailboxes!!

Posted Tuesday, April 24, 2007 8:46 AM

WHOO-HOO! The wedding feels like it is officially happening!! We’ve been getting phone calls from family members gushing about how adorable they are. Well, I take that back. No one has said a thing about the invitations themselves. Everyone loves our photo stamps from Zazzle.com. I told my mother that Jason and I could have written the information on 3x5 cards, stuck them in the envelope, and no one would have cared so long as those stamps were affixed to the outside!

Am I miffed? Eh…a little. I was really hoping people would be surprised that I had made them. My mother says you can tell they aren’t from a professional printer, but they don’t look cheap. One of my friends actually said they were quite elegant, and she was half expecting to see the phrase “black tie optional” somewhere on the invite. My only regret? I wish I would have used this icon on the invites:

…instead of the simple celtic knot I did. Well, live and learn. I can use it at the reception!

And speaking of living and learning, I am kicking myself for NOT putting our registry information in the invitations as well. I don’t freaking care how many etiquette rules it breaks, my guests were actually CONFUSED as to why we didn’t include it! This leads me to say this: know your guests. If you know they are all a bunch of wedding-etiquette snobs, then by all means follow true to form. But if you have received other invitations from family members with registry information in them (like I have), follow suit!! With so many other traditions being broken nowadays, no one is going to scorn you for breaking one more.

Programs HALT!

Posted Tuesday, April 17, 2007 10:05 PM

(Laughing)

Oh wedding Gods...I am so glad you have such a twisted sense of humor! DH and I went back to Michael's today (one-hour, one way), planning on returning the unused paper from the invites and the spray adhesive, in exchange for a different kind if paper, and more card stock for our programs.

Voila! NO cardstock.

(Sighs)

After some mild huffing, puffing, and pouting, I re-hatched another program plan. I'm (hoping) they prove to be just as easy, if not easier. The new plan is to make a modern book fold, with no fold. Instead the edges will be exposed. I chose to do this, because it gave me more option for my paper size, and choices. We picked up this amazing fabric-like red paper, and 6x6 square cardstock cards (I had to settle for white because apparently, ivory is too difficult to come in jumbo packs—which we’ll be using for the final project, if we make it that far, heehee). We chose 6x6 dimensions, because I can get 4 cover pages out of the 12x12 fabric paper. To attach the book together, we’re using black ribbon. The stuff we picked up today was thin, nothing-special-about-it-ribbon, but it was only $1.

So now, I’m playing around with them. But I can’t do too much because my $2 hole puncher literally snapped in half on my first use. I guess that’s what I get for being cheap!! DH said he’d pick one up for me at the PX tomorrow so I can continue my craftiness.

Now, if only our stamps from Zazzle would get here, then I could send out the invites…

Bad make-up! Bad!

Posted Monday, April 16, 2007 2:18 PM

I finally figured out what was screwing my skin up so badly. I’ve always had weird issues with my skin. It’s either too oily, or so freaking dry my skin is flaking off. More recently, it has been the latter. I finally got it under control (thanks to a $5 bottle of Bioré moisturizer from Wal-Mart) and was able to wear liquid foundation again. Since my new skin was behaving so well, I figured I’d try my Bare Minerals again to see if it sat differently now that my skin was properly moisturized. No, no, no, NO.

The second my brush touched my face it was flake central! My forehead, my cheeks, my nose, they were all peeling. I freaked! We were running late as it was, so I didn’t have time to re-do my foundation. Thankfully the weather was so horrible that once we got home, we stayed home the rest of the day. When I went to wash my face last night, my forehead looked beyond terrible. I slathered it with two layers of moisturizer last night, and this morning only a few patches of dryness remain.

Needless to say, I’m am never using powder again. No Bare Minerals, no Bare Natural, none of the knock-off crap in the drug store. I’m using liquid foundation, and I don’t care what their commercials say about all the stuff in it. Apparently, your hoity-toity product wasn’t so great either!

Programs aweigh!

Posted Thursday, April 12, 2007 3:03 AM

After months of agonizing over how I was going to do my programs, I had a stroke of genius tonight! I had some leftover cardstock from the invitations. I'm real big on wanting things to match when it comes to fonts and papers. I started printing the programs (well the covers) on my left over cardstock. The insides will be thinner, but not printer-paper thin. I don't want to get too far ahead of myself on these, but since Michael's is an hour away, I guess I have to jump on it. We're going back to return some supplies, so maybe on Sunday I'll buy another Sunday paper for their coupon.

Oh...this coming week is also the week the invites are supposed to be mailed. I am going to be SO SAD when these babies go. Even though they were my last minute project, the whole process was a labor of love. And not seeing them stacked on our kitchen table will be sad. Oh well, I guess once we start getting RSVPs, I'll get over it!

About LiLCountryGirl

I'm a city girl trying to make it in the country. My husband and I just bought our first home in November 2006. We were married by my grandfather in a JOP-style wedding February of 2006. We're planning our second wedding (the big one) for this summer.
