A dinner date
Kenny and I met back in 2003 during our college days at Rider University. March 3, 2008, was our five-year dating anniversary, and we had plans to go out to dinner in Philly after I got out of work. After a great dinner, we walked to where I thought Kenny's car was parked, near Love Park.
A love poem in Love Park
As we got to the park, he started to go in and I couldn't figure out why. I told him I didn't think there was another way out. He assured me that there was and I went with it. He had told me earlier in the night that he wrote me a poem as my gift and I’d get it when we returned to his house. However, when we got in front of the Love statue, he spun me around and told me that he had lied and had the poem with him. The poem was so sweet and the second-to-last line read, "Make me the happiest man on earth.”
And a shockingly perfect proposal
I started freaking out. I instantly thought, “That’s what people say when they’re going to propose!” And he said quietly, “Read it again.” My eyes flew all over the paper, not realizing that the first letter of each line if read straight down spelled out: "Will You Marry Me?" He then got down on one knee and proposed. I was so excited and so shocked that I started saying (after I thought I said yes), “Are you serious? Really? Oh my goodness, this is crazy!” He stood up, hugged me, and said, “So I guess that means yes.” I responded, “YES...of course!!”
I found out the next day that Kenny had arranged for one of his friends to be in the park and took our picture the exact moment I said yes! He had it framed with a copy of the poem.
I’m still on cloud nine and we’re so excited. I couldn’t have dreamed of a better proposal, and I’m so excited to spend the rest of my life with my best friend!
