A Tennessee Weekend Getaway

Kevin and I went to visit our good friends, Kori and Damon, in Chattanooga for the 4th of July weekend. As cheesy as it sounds, I’ve always wanted to go to one of those murder mystery dinner shows. So Kevin found us one and we went to go see it.

The Murder Mystery Cover-Up

The theme was “The Murder Mystery of the Redneck Italian Wedding” -- what a hoot -- it was a little interactive with a crowd of 300+ people. The show was hilarious, with a big shotgun wedding between a knocked-up redneck girl and a mafia man. The mafia man’s father disowned him after marrying the trailer trash, and his sister was now in line for the family trust fund. The best man tried to propose to the new heir so he’d be in line for the trust fund too. Well he did some crappy proposal and she said it wasn’t good enough and that she wanted a better proposal, so she picked some unsuspecting guy out of the crowd. Yep, she picked Kevin.

As he got up on stage, the best man with the botched proposal handed Kevin his gaudy stage prop ring, and Kevin went to propose to the mafia chick. He hesitated and told her he couldn’t do it because his girlfriend was kind of jealous and she wouldn’t like it. The girl asked if his girlfriend was there, and he pointed to me, so she called me up onto the stage. At this point I was beginning to freak out, as I guessed what was going on. But the 300+ people there thought this was part of the show!

The Proposal

I walked up to Kevin (shaking with tears in my eyes), and he proceeded to ask the best man if he had a better ring than that gaudy stage prop one. But then he said, “Wait a minute, I brought my own.” He reached in his pocket, pulled out a box, and got down on his knee. Then the crowd got it -- amidst all the cheering, Kevin asked if I’d marry him. After I answered him and kissed him, the crowd was yelling, “What did she say?” I answered, “She said yes!”
