Going Out of the Way

The week before Christmas, Alex suggested that I visit his townhouse for the weekend to celebrate early, just the two of us. I was a little confused as to why since we were planning on spending the holidays with our families in our hometown about two hours away from where I was living at the time. I agreed because I was touched that he wanted to make Christmas special for us.

That Friday, I drove down and met Alex for dinner. After we ate, we went back to his house. As we walked into the living room, I saw a beautiful tree! I was very excited that he had put thought into getting a tree and decorating it all on his own, just to make things special...I couldn't stop smiling and hugging him!

My Living Christmas Gift

There was a huge box under the tree and Alex said that he wanted to exchange presents right then. I went first, opened the giant box, and looked inside. Staring up at me was the most adorable puppy ever! He was so excited and was jumping up and kissing us! I was in shock that, after a lifetime of wanting one (and never being allowed!), I finally had my first dog!

The Proposal

After playing with the puppy for a while, I asked Alex if he had named him yet. He said that he had, and that the puppy’s name was on his collar. After much effort, I calmed the puppy down enough to read the silver, heart-shaped tag, and I was even more shocked to see that the engraving read, “Will you marry me?” The next thing I knew, Alex was down on one knee holding a gorgeous ring and asking me to marry him!

Of course I said yes!
