Right Place at the Right Time
Andrea and Kyle met at their company's sales training program in Chicago. Andrea had just relocated to Omaha and Kyle was in Minneapolis, so there was a bit of fate involved in this chance meeting. During that first week of training, the two always seemed to be put in the same group and were even assigned to sit next to each other at the company dinner on the last night. The relationship started growing a month later after numerous emails and phone calls.
Are We There Yet?
After racking nearly 20,000 miles between travels to Omaha and Minneapolis, Kyle couldn't wait to propose. Their one-year anniversary was coming up, so he decided to book a trip to Sedona to celebrate. A week after booking the trip, he knew that Andrea would be expecting a proposal. Because she was coming up to Minneapolis two weeks prior to the Sedona vacation, he decided to plan something she’d never see coming. Before he could get started, Kyle drove down to Iowa City to take Andrea's parents out to dinner and ask for her hand in marriage.
The Five Senses
It was supposed to be a relaxing day of doing nothing, but Andrea's alarm was set to wake her up early on Saturday morning. She realized that Kyle was gone. He had left a note telling her that one of his customers had an emergency and had to go meet with them, he was really sorry, and he had planned out her day to make up for it. Kyle had prepped Andrea to bring a nice outfit to wear for lunch that day, and the note told her to wear it because Kyle was going to take her out to lunch after he was done working.
He left a card saying, "You excite my five senses" and the first clue for her day was in her purse. The card's clue was "Taste" and there was a gift card for Caribou Coffee and instructions on where to go. After she ordered, the cashier gave her the next card, which was "Smell." She then drove to pick up a prepaid order for a dozen roses from the florist, and the next clue with the flowers was "Touch." He had prepaid for a manicure and massage. Once she was done at the spa, the girls fixed her hair and makeup and gave her the next clue: "Sound." He had hidden a CD in her car underneath the driver seat. The first track was Josh Kelley's "Amazing" and the second track was him telling her how he was sorry he couldn't be with her but was hoping she’d enjoy the last clue. He told her to look in the glove box to find it. The card said "Sight" and told her that she had a photo shoot at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden and included a handmade map of where to meet the photographer.
The Proposal
Andrea was fully expecting him to be standing there when she got to the location, but a photographer was there instead. Sarah, the photographer, directed her to go pose by the Double Curve sculpture. Andrea was confused and a little sad that Kyle wasn't there, thinking that Kyle really did have to work. But as soon as Sarah started taking a few pictures, Andrea felt a hand on her shoulder. Kyle came around from behind the sculpture and said, "Before you get started, you might need this." He opened the ring box, got down on one knee, and proposed! The best part of the day, besides the proposal, was having a photographer there to capture every moment.
