Jennifer and Kevin

A couple weeks before the engagement, my closest friend (and future maid of honor) had texted me saying she wanted to plan a scrapbooking day. We decided on a day, and when the day came, I opened the door, and she handed me an envelope that said, "Start here." Inside the envelope was a letter that said:

Congratulations, you have been selected to participate in once-in-a-lifetime scavenger hunt. Today will be a fun day, so eat some food, put on some clothes, and wear some tennis shoes. Before you start going anywhere, you’ll need to confirm your destination. Please text 4XX.XXX.XXXX for confirmation (standard text message rates apply). A friend has been chosen to help guide you along your way, but she doesn’t know where to go either. At each note location, you’ll need to have a photo taken of you and sent to 4XX.XXX.XXXX. Good luck! Enjoy the day and have fun!

Scavenger hunt void where prohibited. Hunt will begin on 09.14.2008 at 12 Noon PT and end on 09.14.2008 5 PM PT. Only one entry per person will be allowed. Each person who enters the contest fully and unconditionally agrees to comply with and abide by these official rules and the decisions of the sponsor and judges, which shall be final and binding in all respects.

My fiance is such a dork; he had copied some existing contest rules he found on the Internet! Here are the list of clues he had given me, each one leading to a location that has meaning in our relationship:

clue 1:
Take a walk or take a jog
This first place you can take your dog
Go around the corner and up the street
Don’t use a car just use your feet
In the corner you’ll see a tree
It’ll direct you the next place to be

(This was a park we take our dogs to. The next clue was attached to a tree very high up!)

clue 2:
On top of the water you’ll be able to stand
And in the distance you’ll see an island
Down by the boats you will see
A note to you written by me

(This was a lake with a dock nearby. The next clue was attached to the dock.)

clue 3:
It’s not too late, you don’t have to sneak in
At the top is where it did begin
Where we walked and where we sat
Brought us to where we’re at

(This was underneath a picnic table.)

clue 4:
This next stop is my favorite place to be
We’ll be buying lots of stuff for you and me
Hope its spacious, hope it’s big
Maybe we’ll even put in a pig

(Home Depot refrigerator...weird, I know.)

clue 5:
Face your fears and I’ll face mine
Go under the bridge, you’ll still be fine
Touch his head stand on his back
By now you’re probably thinking I’m a quack

This one needs a little more explanation. He made me stand on the Fremont troll! I’m terribly afraid of this statue -- also goes with my fear of bronze statues. I never went 10 feet of this thing because I was afraid he was going to jump out at me. For non-Seattle people, this is the Fremont troll. The next clue was taped above his head on the bride itself.

clue 6:
With the sun’s help time can be told
We’ve got lots of time to grow very old
The mountain top is where you’ll go
Confused? Think really hard you’ll know

This one led us to the park where we had our first date. There’s a sundial on top of a large hill, and this was where he made the “I’ll love you for the rest of my life” speech!
