Justin and I have been together for nine years, and I knew a proposal would be coming soon. We had talked about getting married on several occasions...but just in the form of "what if." He’s always been a romantic person who has given me fun surprises (weekend getaways, scavenger hunt that led to a night away and a massage, etc.). After getting my hopes up time and time again that one of these surprises would be a proposal and having my hopes crushed, I decided to get the wedding/proposal out of my head. I told him I wouldn’t indulge in the wedding talk until after we were engaged.
During the summer, Justin and I decided to go to Savannah for a weekend getaway and stayed at the Mansion on Forsyth. After enjoying a walk and day down in Historic Savannah, we returned to our hotel to get dressed for dinner. Justin wanted to set a romantic mood before dinner, but all I could think about was how we were going to be late for our reservations. He kept trying to slow me down, but I hate being late!
The hotel concierge service provided us with a ride to The Pink House for dinner. It was such an awesome day and I was looking forward to our evening. After dinner at The Pink House, Justin and I waited for the car service from the hotel. We noticed a horse and carriage next to the restaurant, and Justin suggested I ask them for a ride to the hotel. I refused because I knew you had to pay a high price for those rides. He proceeded to go over and ask the woman if she could give us a ride back to the hotel, and to my surprise, she said yes.
When I entered the carriage, there were flowers waiting for me, but I still didn’t even think that this was a proposal. The tour guide explained that she’d be giving us a tour of Historic Savannah. She made a stop on the tour and mentioned that we were at a Fountain of Love and if you throw a coin in and make a wish, it’ll come true.
We walked over to the fountain and realized we had no change. It was at this moment that Justin turned to me and said, "I don't have any change, but I do have this." He then took the ring from his pocket, got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife! I screamed and yelled for about five minutes before saying yes! The tour guide said that I must’ve woken up Savannah. When we returned to the carriage, champagne and glasses were waiting for us. It was really an engagement tour that was disguised as a city tour.
