Angela & Joel

For years, my dream wedding would be held at a castle in New Hampshire. I had been given the nickname "Princess," so I thought it was only fitting that I be married in what I started to refer to as "My Castle."
Joel started dropping hints a few months ago, so, being me, I was convinced the proposal was right around the corner. In anticipation, I decided I should start planning. While on the website of "My Castle" I noticed they were holding an open house/bridal show. I signed up for tickets to the bridal show assuming Joel would have popped the question by then.
A few weeks before the show, Joel still hadn’t asked, and I started to realize a castle wedding would probably be out of the budget even when he did propose. Disappointed and discouraged, I decided I didn’t want to go to the castle. Joel insisted that we go, that I was always talking about the castle, so I might as well go and see it. My sister and her boyfriend were in on the surprise, but at the time, I thought they were just being supportive and offered to go with us.
As we drove up to New Hampshire, it was like any other night. We pulled into the main parking lot, drove up the driveway past the castle, and then down the other side to the back parking lot. Joel parked on the side of the road, and as I started to get out of his truck he said, “Wait, I have something for you.” When I turned around, he had pulled a small white box with a bow out of his center console and handed to me. Shaking from excitement, shock, anticipation, and nerves, I struggled to undo the bow. Joel pointed out that I could just slide it off the box.
He then said, “I know we may not be able to get married at a castle, but at least I can ask you to marry me at one.” I finally got the box open. Shocked and amazed by the ring, I looked up and he asked, “Will you marry me?” And of course I said, “Yes!”
