The paper chase

It's coming. Four weeks from this Sunday. Actually, it's 30 Days, 11 Hours, 57 Minutes and 41 Seconds, 40, 39, 38.....but who's counting?

For those who read this blog regularly, know that I want to write more – but the ironic twist of writing Tales of a Jewish Bride to Be is that the "bride" part has to outweigh the "tale-telling" part sometimes.

Of course, as the wedding day draws near, I know that my affair with Mr. Mac OS X, must also come to an end. If, as they say, the devil is in the details, then Satan has taken up residence in my computer – where I am detailing EVERYTHING: the program, the photo list, the music list, the who is doing what list, the ketubbah proof, the RSVP database and – of course – the honeymoon info.

But lets not forget the importance of random scraps of paper: my music list is currently occupying the last two pages of a book I had with me on the airplane when I flew home for Rosh Hashanah; the table name list is on the back of a flyer for a stress reducation class Adam and I took at Kaiser.

Sure, I could have written it out on the back of my shrinking checklist, but I keep throwing them out and printing out new ones. Where at one time the instructions I was given on my Knot checklist were to "buy this" and "find this,"  now it is "pick up this" and "tell X this."

Last night was all about putting the favors together at my future mother-in-law's house. I was there until midnight creating …… (yeah, like I'm going to spoil the surprise). Of course Adam called around 11 asking if I was OK and when I would be coming home. I tried explaining what we were doing, but for some reason, men don't understand the intricacies of crafts.

While creating the (secret, special favor) all the other wedding-related tasks flew through my mind. That pushed me this morning to finish the program and give the OK for the ketubbah proof (yes mom, it looks perfect – and all changes have been made).

This weekend I'll enjoy my last doily-free High Holiday service and I'll look on the Yom Kippur fast as a chance to do some biblically sanctioned crash dieting (to be followed by biblically sanctioned binge eating).

Four weeks … and I go from Jewish Bride to Be to Jewish Newlywed, and I reclaim some of my life – not all, but enough. And if I need some guidance, I can always pull out that checklist from the Nest.
