Seattle Knottie, jennlin, gives the details on her wedding with Chinese and Western traditions.

Knot Name: jennlin

Wedding Date: September 9, 2009, is our justice of the peace wedding. On September 12, 2009, we’re having traditional ceremonies and a reception.

Knot Annie: What boards do you post on and have you ever joined other Knotties for a GTG?

jennlin: My “home board” is Seattle, but I also post frequently on September 2009 and am always watching Chinese Weddings. I’ve been to GTGs with my local girls, and they’re great in real life as well.

Knot Annie: Describe your wedding.

jennlin: It’s a mix between Chinese and Western traditions. Some of our Chinese traditions include having an auspicious wedding date, a tea ceremony the day of the wedding to serve our elders, changing into multiple dresses to show family wealth, having a double-happiness theme, playing reception games, and using chopsticks as favors. Our Western traditions include having the white-dress-walking-down-the-aisle shebang, plated non-Chinese dinners (which isn’t what our families are used to), first dance, daddy-daughter dance, and the bouquet/garter toss.

Knot Annie: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?

jennlin: I’ve seen lots of great ideas on DIY projects, money-saving tips, and fantastic vendor recommendations from my local board. The Chinese Weddings board has helped me learn more about Chinese traditions and the details that go along with a tea ceremony. My club board has been good with keeping me on track on when I should be completing my DIY projects and sending out save-the-dates.

Knot Annie: Favorite bio on The Knot and why?

jennlin: Redshoegirl. Not only is it extremely aesthetically pleasing, it also has links to many other beautiful bios with great information.

Knot Annie: Best vendor that you’ve worked with and why?

jennlin: My photographer (Jenny GG). She’s been very quick in responding to emails and phone calls and has had a very flexible schedule. She knew that we really wanted fall e-pix, but because of our schedules, nothing was working. When she had a cancellation, she called me right away, and we were able to get our e-pix done with beautiful weather!

Knot Annie: Any words of wisdom for the lurkers out there?

jennlin: Don’t be afraid when you first start posting. If the board’s personality doesn’t work with you, find another one. There are many boards to choose from with varying personalities. You’ll find one that fits, just give it time.

Knot Annie: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?

jennlin: Declaring our love for each other in front of those we care about most. Chinese weddings emphasize the bonding of two families, not just two people, so we’re looking forward to seeing our extended families together.

Thanks, jennlin! Be sure to post pics of both dresses.
