Knot Name: thethomps

Wedding Date: January 17, 2009

Knot Annie: What boards do you post on?

thethomps: I post on the Austin local and Planning & Etiquette board.

KA: Describe your wedding:

thethomps: We wanted something very simple and elegant. My fiance is German, so we picked the chapel we’re using (Smith Family Chapel at Riverbend Church) because it had a European look and feel. I knew I wanted a warm color palette to make the day feel cozy and comforting, even though it might be cold outside. We’re having a lot of personal touches throughout the day -- the photographers are friends of ours, I’m having a former coworker make my wedding cake, and the groom’s sister is making my bouquet. The table names at our reception are postcards (new mixed with vintage) from cities in the US and Europe that we’ve visited together. Over one-third of our guests are coming from out of town (including 14 from Germany!), so we’re hoping to have a wonderful day of celebration with all our family and friends from near and far.

KA: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?

thethomps: They’ve provided templates for the ceremony program and seating chart. I would’ve been a total mess without them! They also had a great suggestion for a flower girl gift. She loves monkeys, so she’s getting a Build-A-Bear monkey dressed up as a bride.

KA: Favorite bio on The Knot and why?

thethomps: Jillers1219 has some great DIY stuff in her bio. Actually, any Knotties with DIY stuff have been invaluable!

KA: Best vendor that you’ve worked with and why?

thethomps: My photographer, Courtney Sprague. Courtney and her husband, Mike, have been so easy to work with. Our engagement session was a ton of fun -- they let us be ourselves and the pictures turned out better than we ever expected. They’re so humble about their talent and work too.
Caveat: All my vendors have been wonderful. I think I’ve been very fortunate to have relatively problem-free planning.

KA: Any words of wisdom for the lurkers out there?

thethomps: Use the resources available to you on The Knot! The checklist has kept me sane during my planning.

KA: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?

thethomps: I can’t wait to see my fiance for the first time as I’m walking down the aisle.

Thank you, thethomps! I love your favors and cake topper! (See them in her bio!)
