Knot Name: jenwoodhouse

Wedding Date: April 18, 2009

Knot Annie: What's your board like and have you ever joined the Knotties for a GTG?

jenwoodhouse: A group of friendly, supportive girls who enjoy sharing recipes, shopping deals, DIY crafty goodness, and more! Yes, we do GTGs pretty regularly...about every month!

KA: Describe your wedding.

jenwoodhouse: Modern elegance with an Asian flair. My colors are black and white, with a deep eggplant accent color. My bridesmaid dresses are this deep eggplant jeweled tone to match the plum-colored cymbidium orchids, with white anemones with black centers. I'm in love with minimalist design: sleek and elegant, but not too contemporary. I plan on honoring my Filipino heritage by infusing my wedding with a few Filipino dishes, the coin and cord ceremony, as well as the attire. The groomsmen and ring bearer are wearing barongs (traditional Filipino embroidered tunics). Also, our favors will be polvoron (powdered milk candy) placed in mini bamboo steamers. I DIY'd my pocket-fold invitations and have gotten a lot of compliments on them! Being eco-friendly was also important to me, so our evening wedding is at one location. The ceremony will be held outside in the garden, with a seated dinner reception afterward in the glass ballroom. Also, I'm so blessed to have both my wedding gowns (ceremony & reception gowns) custom-made. I’m a musician and was on tour in Asia. I was able to design, choose fabrics, and have my dresses handmade at a low cost. Not only will it be gorgeous, it’ll also be a meaningful memento from my time in Asia.

KA: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?

jenwoodhouse: By recommending local vendors based on their own experiences, such as hair and makeup stylists, florists, bakers, etc. They've also been gracious enough to allow me to bounce ideas off of them, and they offer opinions and constructive criticism.

KA: Favorite bio on The Knot and why?

jenwoodhouse: Mine! I've had such a blast planning this wedding with details that will be uniquely “ours.” I'm a DIY girl at heart and have enjoyed designing all creative aspects of my wedding.

KA: Best vendor that you've worked with and why?

jenwoodhouse: So far, Heather with Stems Atlanta (florist) and Niki with Edible Greetings (baker). They were both very friendly, professional, and attentive. Heather listened to my ideas and made them better based on her experience and expertise. After about half a dozen cake tastings with several bakers, Niki's cakes were the best I'd ever tasted! I'm so excited to eat her cake at the wedding! Both vendors work out of their homes, so their prices are more affordable based on their lack of overhead costs. I love that and prefer to support small local businesses.

KA: What's something that makes your wedding unique for your guests and where did you find the inspiration?

jenwoodhouse: Months and months of gathering ideas from The Knot and customizing them to suit our personalities. Not only will we be incorporating Filipino traditions, but we'll also keep our modern theme going throughout all the little details.

KA: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?

jenwoodhouse: Enjoying good food with great company.

Thank you, jenwoodhouse! I am swooning over your custom-made dresses!
