Knot Name: SMorriso

Wedding Date: September 5, 2009

Knot Annie: Tell me about the Knotties on your board that you post on. Have you ever joined them for a GTG?

SMorriso: I post on the Minneapolis/St.Paul board and the September 09 board. The Minneapolis/St.Paul girls are the best (I know everyone says that!). I've been on the boards for a while, and we have an active and creative board. The Twin Cities are a great hot spot for weddings, and some beautiful ones have taken place there. I love my 09ers too. It’s great to see what the different wedding budgets, traditions, and themes are.

I've gone to several GTGs. I'm actually in the current issue of The Knot magazine for going. We've had DIY events, movie nights, bingo, karaoke, and a barbecue. We take Minnesota Nice seriously!

KA: Describe your wedding.

SMorriso: Our wedding is exactly that...our wedding. Both of our personalities are fused throughout nearly every detail (minus my dress, of course). We're getting married at a museum with ruins and new modern architecture. There’s definitely a blend of styles in the location. We're getting married in the courtyard with our guests surrounding us. Our colors are black, eggplant, and ivory with hints of charcoal and rich greens. The groomsmen are wearing black suits with low-top Chuck Taylor Converse shoes, and the girls are wearing full-length Vineyard dresses from Priscilla of Boston.

KA: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?

SMorriso: The Mpls/STP knotties are extremely helpful with local vendors, and the Sept 09 board is awesome for timelines and keeping my to-do list on track. I’ve found that there’s also a lot of emotional support with tough life situations. Most of the ladies are awesome at offering advice and being there when things get rough.

KA: Favorite bio on The Knot?

SMorriso: Oldhousejunkie and MrsKizdoodle have always been favorites of mine. Oldhousejunkie has a great vintage and easygoing wedding style. MrsKizdoodle was one of the first bios I looked at because I loved her venue. We're venue twins.

KA: Best vendor that you’ve worked with and why?

SMorriso: I know most people say their photographer, and I love ours. But I was really blown away with the service and quality of the Edina Priscilla of Boston salon for my bridesmaid dresses. It was really a great experience. My consultant knew my name pretty much when I entered the salon. She knew what dress I was looking for without having to look at my file. They’re very flexible for ordering, payments, and out-of-town bridesmaids. I was treated like royalty and can't say enough about how great they are!

KA: What will make your wedding stand out to your guests, and where did you find the inspiration?

SMorriso: I think, along with our venue, our ceremony setup will be great. I loved the way Weezermonkey had her ceremony on risers. That way, all of their guests could see them. I’m a painter, and I wanted to design some cool canvases to create the "edge" of the riser instead of just fabric/flowers. I’m still looking for great quotes to paint on the canvases. They'll be propped against the riser in a layered effect (sort of hard to describe) to add visual interest. I'm excited to start working on that project.

Oh! One other thing: There’s a budding photographer who’ll be taking some funny photos of us for our table assignments. We'll be in shotgun wedding attire, me in a plain white top and a veil with some cheesy flowers, and Anwar will be in a tuxedo T-shirt. We’ll just goof off and use the shots for our table numbers. I’m really excited for this!

KA: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?

SMorriso: I plan on surprising Anwar with a violinist who’ll play Verve's “Bittersweet Symphony” during our first walk down the aisle as husband and wife. It’s one of his favorite songs, and he wanted to incorporate it into the wedding somehow. I liked the playful idea from the movie Love Actually. This would be my version of it.

Great interview, Stephanie!  There are so many great ideas in your bio too - I really like your cake topper, your escort card "doors," and your flower ideas!  Very fun and inspiring.
