Knot Name: ring_pop
Wedding Date: August 15, 2009
Knot Annie: What boards do you post on and have you ever joined Knotties for a GTG?
ring_pop: I mainly post on Canada, Toronto, August 2009, P&E, and Chinese Weddings. I've been to a couple of GTGs with some of the local Knotties that I met on P&E and August 2009 boards.
KA: Describe your wedding.
ring_pop: We want it to look beautiful, elegant, and grand, but still have the atmosphere of a warm and cozy family dinner party. Prior to the wedding ceremony, we’ll be holding a traditional Chinese tea ceremony in which the couple shows their respect for their parents and elders, who then offer blessings and gifts to the couple. The ceremony will be held at the Catholic church at the University of Toronto, our alma mater. We’re both members of the choir at that church, so some of our very talented chorister friends will be performing the music during the ceremony. The chapel has beautiful old architecture, but is still very cozy. The reception will be held at a nearby downtown hotel. The building was constructed in 1911 as a bank, and the reception hall is the old Grand Banking Hall. We worked with the chef to incorporate flavors from our Chinese and Indian heritages into a contemporary menu.
KA: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?
ring_pop: The message boards have been a great place to go for a sanity check when I need it. It's so easy to get lost in the details. The Knotties are great about offering opinions on the smallest things, but at the
same time, reminding you of what's truly important. I try to do the same for others; when I answer questions, ultimately I hope to help brides stay grounded and focused on the important things.
KA: Favorite bio on The Knot and why?
ring_pop: I love perusing different Knotties' DIY projects. Some of my favorites are macdidlyicious, Savannah6783, and sweetie7245.
KA: Best vendor that you've worked with and why?
ring_pop: Firstly, our venue, The Suites at 1 King West. Our venue coordinator, Lisa, has been really flexible about accommodating our wishes, and she’s always prompt and helpful at answering our questions. And Chef Sam has been really great about creating a menu that incorporates our cultures -- he really brought our menu vision to life!
Secondly, our videographer, Stillmotion. They’re just so incredibly talented and creative, and really fun and easygoing when we met with them. I've been following their blog almost religiously. I can't wait to work with them and see what they come up with.
KA: Any words of wisdom for the lurkers out there?
ring_pop: We could all benefit from more ideas, so please do come out and post! Just be yourself and keep an open mind. We'd love to get to know you.
KA: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?
ring_pop: Seeing all of our friends and family gathered together to witness our marriage. And I'm really hoping that our guests will enjoy the reception dinner!
Thank you so much to such an amazing Knottie (and an awesome moderator)! Your menu sounds so incredible.
