Knot Name: Leo713
Wedding Date: August 15, 2009
Knot Annie: Tell me about the Knotties on your board that you post on. Have you ever joined them for a GTG?
Leo713: I mostly post on the August ’09 board, and I can't say enough about the ladies on that board. They're endlessly entertaining and extremely helpful with any issue, wedding-related or not. Several of us are planning a GTG in Philly next weekend actually...a few local girls and some out-of-towners will be joining, and based on the planning conversations we've had, it's going to be a great time!
KA: Describe your wedding.
Leo713: It's very much "us." We've tried to infuse our personality as a couple into as many aspects of the day as possible. The ceremony and reception are in Boston, which was our first home together. Our colors are blue and yellow, representing the colors of our alma mater. We're incorporating our mutual love of music through meaningful song selections, our shared passion for traveling through table names inspired by places we've been, and our competitive nature through cocktail hour trivia. We're not particularly fancy, so the day will be mostly laid-back. Overall, we've focused the majority of our attention (and budget) on making sure it's a fun weekend and that all of our guests have a great time.
KA: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?
Leo713: Despite spending most of my time on August ’09, the Boston board has also been incredibly helpful. Living in Philly, I don't get up to Boston too often, so I've had to rely on the Internet for a huge portion of my planning. The ladies on the Boston board have provided so many great recommendations -- I'd say I've booked 85 percent of my vendors through Knottie references.
At the same time, the August ’09 girls have been helpful in keeping me in check time-wise. Since we're all on the same timeline, we're pretty good about reminding each other what needs to be done and what we should be working on at a given time.
KA: Favorite bio on The Knot and why?
It's so tough to decide. I keep going back to TDiddy2. Her DIY projects are out of this world and I secretly wish I were a guest at her wedding. It looked SO fun.
I love kaesha's too. Her humorous commentary is right up my alley, and I'm considering crashing her wedding while on our honeymoon in Hawaii!
KA: Best vendor that you’ve worked with and why?
Definitely our jewelers. My fiance was referred to Ron and Wendy at Optima Jewelers in Narberth, Pennsylvania, by a coworker. They did a fantastic job working with him to design the perfect ring for him to surprise me with (it actually ended up being a year-long process, but totally worth the wait). Naturally, we went back to them to design my wedding band, and they did a fabulous job with that as well. Through the whole process, they've been friendly and very responsive. In fact, when I was having trouble getting to their store during business hours, Ron actually drove to my office with a wax mold for my wedding band to make sure it fit perfectly before setting it!
KA: What will make your wedding stand out to your guests, and where did you find the inspiration?
Leo713: I've found the most inspiration through the past two weddings in my family -- my older brother's and my cousin's. Both of them (and their lovely wives) did a great job of making sure their guests were happy and comfortable the whole weekend, and when I think back on those events, I remember the entire weekend, not just the day of. I'm hoping ours is similar, especially since almost all of our guests will be traveling from out of town.
As far as distinguishing features? I hope the efforts to represent our personalities are recognized and that all of our guests go home with the feeling of "that was just so THEM."
KA: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?
I can't wait to have people from all different parts of our lives together in one place. I feel like it's going to be surreal seeing high school friends mixed with college roommates, cousins, and coworkers...hopefully all having a blast!
Thank you so much Leo713! I love any wedding that is about travel! You two seem like such a fun couple.
