Knot Name: koosh ball

Wedding Date: July 11, 2009

Knot Annie: Tell me about the Knotties on your board that you post on. Have you ever joined them for a GTG?

koosh ball: The ladies on the Seattle board have been incredibly helpful. Even though we’re having a rather offbeat wedding, I still want the best vendors Seattle has to offer. The reviews from past weddings have been very helpful in how I deal with certain vendors.
I’ve been to one of the GTGs and had a great time. The conversation was about anything from wedding stuff to childbirth to the cute waiter. I can’t wait for the next one!

KA: Describe your wedding.

koosh ball: I’ve always wanted a very small wedding, and since this is his second marriage, he was MORE than okay with that. Neither of us wants a wedding party either! When we first thought about planning the wedding, we looked at all the traditional venues, but none of them popped out to us. One day Tom said, “That’s why Chicago is cooler! You can rent the L train per hour.” I wasn’t going to let him win that easy, so I checked to see if you could rent out the local trolley. I think we were both shocked when the city said yes! We’re going to get married on a moving trolley.

After the wedding, we’re going to walk over to a local restaurant on the water and we’ll stuff our guests full of wonderful food and drinks. Another personalized part of our wedding is that our cake will be shaped like a Slurpee glass. Since we are getting married on 7/11, it seemed only fair to have a Slurpee somewhere (he loves wild cherry Slurpees; I hate them)!
Since we’re skipping the dancing part of the reception, we decided to rent a “Ride the Duck” and take a tour of Seattle with our guests. Only a handful of the 32 guests are local, so this will give everyone a chance to have a great view of the city. I know, the music is cheesy, but it’ll be a lot of fun for Tom’s kids (and me). I can’t wait for the photographs!

KA: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?

The reviews from other members have been priceless. It’s really hard to trust a vendor when you can’t find any reviews about them. I’ve been lacking in the small details (who knew you needed a satin hanger for your dress photographs!) and The Knot ladies have been great for bouncing new ideas off of and finding things you might have forgotten.

KA: Favorite bio on The Knot and why?

koosh ball: Ben + Amanda. She has the energy to DIY, including having her dress custom-made. Her engagement pictures were beautiful!

KA: Best vendor that you’ve worked with and why?

Ikoosh ball: It’s pretty hard to narrow this down, but I think most brides feel a certain attachment with their wedding photographer, and I’m no different. Jenny GG has been amazing to work with.I think she’s the official Seattle Knottie photographer.

KA: What will make your wedding stand out to your guests, and where did you find the inspiration?

koosh ball: We both want everyone to have fun, and that was really our inspiration. We’ve been very lucky in that we haven’t had many unwanted opinions, and we really have been able to do what we want. There was no drama over not being in the wedding party because there’s no party. There has been no drama over who is or isn’t invited because we made it very clear that it’s a small wedding.
So when our guests think back about our wedding, I hope they say how much fun they had.

KA: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?

koosh ball: No more planning?  I’m looking forward to being able to marry a man that makes me laugh more than anyone. I also get to be a stepmother to two wonderful kids who love me. In fact, when Tom’s ex-wife explained what “engaged” meant to the little boys (6 and 8), they said so does that mean we get two moms? Score!

Thank you koosh ball. I love the unique name of your trolley car and am obsessed with your cake idea. Congrats on your upcoming wedding and your new family!
