Knot Name: bluepoet2007
Wedding Date: September 5, 2009
Knot Annie: Tell me about the Knotties on your board that you post on. Have you ever joined them for a GTG?
bluepoet2007: I’ve been to three or four GTGs since I joined The Knot in 2007. I haven’t been to one lately, but I love that there’s always a core group of diehards who seem to show up to each one. There’s new Knotties too, of course! The most recent one I attended was for a Knottie who lives in California, but she’s having her wedding in Orlando. Some of the other Knotties planned the GTG so we could meet her when she was in Florida to see her vendors. I thought it was really sweet. It seems like once you start hanging around our board, you’re always a CFL Knottie, whether you live here or not!
KA: Describe your wedding.
bluepoet2007: We’ve been working to make ours “rock-and-roll elegant,” if there’s such a thing. We’re getting married at the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando, so we want our families and guests to party! Hard Rock plays rock music throughout the whole hotel, and they’ll have it playing during our cocktail hour. But we also want to have a stylish atmosphere. We’re letting that come through in our main colors -- deep purple and sapphire blue with some pewter -- and our attire. My fiance chose a cutaway coat when he picked his tux, and my dress is taffeta and lace.
KA: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?
bluepoet2007: I’ve definitely made some lifelong friends from the CFL board. I think we have some of the most creative girls for sure! They’ve helped me out the most when it comes to DIY projects. I knew I wanted to DIY some elements, but I was a little freaked out. I’ve never been super-crafty, so I was afraid to trust myself. If I hadn’t gotten help and supplies from the board, I’d still be stuck wishing!
KA: Favorite bio on The Knot and why?
bluepoet2007: I have two -- both fellow CFL Knotties. I couldn’t choose! kim&josh, for all her DIY ideas and pics, and kriska1976’s wedding blog and for her step-by-step instructions. I also love Rockinro. Both ladies recently got married and are extremely talented!
KA: Best vendor that you’ve worked with and why?
bluepoet2007: Without a doubt, it’s Jessica G. (our catering coordinator at Hard Rock). We started talking to her in December ’07 when we chose the hotel, and she’s been right there with us ever since! She’s really gone above and beyond -- helping us with our room block, answering my OCD questions (I always have a list of things to ask), and recommending vendors. She even bought us ice cream from the hotel on two occasions when we met with her!
KA: What will make your wedding stand out to your guests, and where did you find the inspiration?
bluepoet2007: Since the Hard Rock is our venue and they have tons of rock-and-roll memorabilia, I got some ideas from there and combined them with ideas from The Knot. For instance, I saw a circular menu card in one of the photo galleries, and it made me want to do mine like that too. But I want to take it one step further and make the menu look like a vinyl record! I just started on those and the escort cards, and both are coming out really well. I’ve heard the little details are what people remember most at weddings. I want our guests to have a good laugh and enjoy the unique stuff. I hope they do!
KA: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?
bluepoet2007: Two things: We’re NOT seeing each other before the ceremony, so I’m looking forward to my fiance seeing me for the first time. He bought my dress for me, and he saw me after my hair and makeup trial. He’s also seen other details like my shoes and my jewelry, but he hasn’t seen everything put together yet. I can’t wait to see the look on his face! I’m also looking forward to our vows -- I know mine will be funny somehow. I’m curious to hear what he’ll say!
