Knot Name:  Nukke

Wedding Date: October 30th, 2010

Knot Annie: Tell me about the Knotties on your board that you post on. Have you ever joined them for a GTG?

Nukke: I post mainly on the Retro and Vintage theme board as well as the October 2010 club board.  The Retro and Vintage knotties are all great people (not only girls on there, either!).  We’re a pretty new board, so we’re meeting new retro and vintage-inspired knotties almost every day.   I think everyone there is really helpful and so creative!  I find it incredibly addictive looking through the bios of people who have such similar styles and ideas as I do.

The October 2010 club board has many members but somehow we are all still managing to get to know each other on a personal level.  There have been a few GTG on this board, but unfortunately I’ve been unable to attend any of them.  (I’m living with my fiancé in Japan right now, so it would take some real effort!)  However, I have been able to participate in a recent holiday ornament exchange, which has been a lot of fun!

KA: Describe your wedding.

Nukke: Matt and I will be married on the shores of Lake George in the Adirondacks, NY.  We both wanted to be married somewhere where we would be surrounded by the beauty of nature, and celebrate with about eighty of our dearest friends and family.  We’ve both lived in a few different places around the world, and so we have guests coming to the wedding from all four corners.  We wanted a place where they could feel relaxed and at home…. and have fun!

I’m Finnish Canadian, and Matt was born and raised in Pennsylvania.  Matt and l fell in love in Finland so the country and culture has a special place in our hearts.  We’ll be serving some Finnish food, practicing a few Finnish wedding traditions, and guests may also notice a vintage Scandinavian theme in some of the décor.  Naturally, we’ll be including some special Pennsylvanian treats as well!

KA: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?

Nukke: The knotties on both boards are an invaluable resource for inspiration!  So far the only “planning” I’ve been doing has been décor related.   They’ve been great at sharing with me their ideas and honest opinions on everything from fascinators to cake toppers!  This month, however, I’m finally getting into a lot of the nitty gritty planning (buying a dress, catering, guest-lists, etc), and will undoubtedly turn to them for any and all concerns.

Of course if you count my weight-loss “plans”, I can also say that I turn to the October 2010 knotties for motivation and encouragement.  They’re a great supportive bunch and I’m so happy I have them there to keep me going!

KA: Favorite bio on The Knot and why?

Nukke: Ashley and Brandon (http://www.ashandbrandon.com)  Her married bio is so romantic!  It’s full of pictures and is a wonderful chronicle of their wedding day.  Their wedding was really put together, and had lovely vintage touches.

Tyresec (http://tyandkevsvintagewedding.weebly.com)  Tyrese’s wedding is just around the corner, so her planning bio is packed full of fun!  I think we have really similar styles, so I love looking at her bio for inspiration!  I can’t wait to see how her wedding goes.

KA: Best vendor that you’ve worked with and why?

Nukke: This was a tough call to decide who the “best” was.  Of the vendors we’ve worked with so far, Teija Kovanen (photography) and Andros Creations (wedding bands) have been the most delightful by far.  They’re both extremely personable, but also very professional.  They answered all our questions in a timely manner and made Matt and I feel very comfortable and confident at every step of the decision making process.  Since we haven’t actually received any services from Teija yet (but we will in just two weeks for our e-pics!) the title of “best vendor” will go to Andros Creations.  He made my fiancé and I custom rose gold wedding bands.  He gave us exactly what we wanted, and was a true pleasure to work with.  He possesses an old-world personable business charm that’s so rare nowadays, not to mention that he’s a wonderful craftsman!

KA: What will make your wedding stand out to your guest and where did you find the inspiration?

Nukke: Honestly the thing that our guests will probably delight in the most will be each other.  Our wedding is going to be a reunion-of-sorts for most of them.  Many of our family and friends haven’t had the chance to see each other in months, and even years.  Some members haven’t even met each other yet!  I’m completely delighted that our marriage will be host to such a meaningful gathering of our nearest and dearest.  Our inspiration?  Love, of course!

KA: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?

Nukke: Being able to say to Matt, “I’m your wife” and hear back from him, “I’m your husband”.  That’s the thing that still gives me butterflies to think about.  I cannot wait to marry him!
