Knot Name: MyBFsWedding1
Wedding Date: October 30th, 2010
Knot Annie: Tell me about the Knotties on your board that you post on. Have you ever joined them for a GTG?
MyBFsWedding1: The October 2010 board is AMAZING! The girls on there are all so supportive and helpful. They have great ideas and I feel like I have really made some great friends on there. I find myself talking about them all the time to my FI. I’m always saying things like “So and so on the knot had a great idea for this …” or “the girls on the knot all really like this STD better…” ect. The knotties on this board are truly amazing women and I feel so grateful to theknot.com for creating an outlet for brides to connect with each other and help each other out!
We’re doing an ornament exchange for the holidays which I’m really excited about ! And although I have not been able to attend a GTG because I don’t really live close enough to any other knotties on my board I’m hoping to coordinate with one of the girls that probably lives closest to me (next state over) so that can meet “half way” for some dress shopping which would be really fun!
KA: Describe your wedding.
MyBFsWedding1: Jason and I are both originally from up north so most of our guests will be coming down to South Carolina for the 1st time to attend our wedding and we both really love it down here and want to give out guests a southern experience that also incorporates family traditions on both sides.
We are having both our ceremony and reception at the historic Alhambra Hall in Mount Pleasant SC. Our theme is still a work in progress but the feeling we are going for is a “small town southern Fall Festival”. The ceremony will be under a gorgeous live oak tree over looking Charleston Harbor with fall décor and personal touches in the reading and vows.
The reception is one of the more difficult parts of the wedding for Jason and I to plan (we’re actually still working out a lot of the details) but it was important for us that the reception was a celebration of our life together so far and our hopes and dreams for our life together in the future. We want it to be laid back, comfortable and fun! So we thought the “fall festival” theme would allow people to relax and have a great time. We want things to be set up in small town festival type way so we’re going to have an apple cider stand, a giant popcorn machine, a kissing booth candy apples as favors and we’re going to DIY a photo booth that has vintage southern fair feel.
Also, since we’re getting married the day before Halloween (which is incidentally my favorite Holiday) we couldn’t let it pass without doing something so with the help of our DJ we plan on “ringing in” Halloween around the last hour of the reception by having the entire wedding party, either put on some really cool Halloween costume accessories or maybe go all out and “zombify” ourselves for fun late night Halloween celebration!
KA: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?
MyBFsWedding1: Wow! How haven’t they helped?? I seriously think I pass every idea I have by them. They give such honest advice and everyone brings something else to the table! I am not super creative in the DIY department so sharing ideas and DIY trials and mishaps with each other is so helpful and fun!
I honestly look forward to signing onto the October 2010 board every morning because I know those girls are going to make my day that much better!
KA: Favorite bio on The Knot and why?
MyBFsWedding1: I feel like I have looked at so many bios I can’t even keep them strait! But I think Lizzonyc (who is actually our board moderator) has a fantastic bio! And one of our Knotties (Blondnette) actually made an October 2010 planning page which has the links to all the Oct2010 knottie bios so now its super easy to get to everyone’s bios for planning ideas!
KA: Best vendor that you’ve worked with and why?
MyBFsWedding1: Definitely my photographer!!! I actually found her on The Knot!!! She had just started advertising with thenknot.com 2 days before I contacted her for some information. She has been so great to work with for so many reasons. Firstly because her pictures are amazing and totally fit the style and feel of the kind of wedding Jason and I want and secondly I never have to wait around for days and days to hear back from her on anything. She always gets back to me right away! Also she has a very calming presence and makes you feel completely comfortable which is definitely something I am going to need on my wedding day!
KA: What will make your wedding stand out to your guest and where did you find the inspiration?
MyBFsWedding1: We want our wedding to be fun!! And I know people sometimes dread going to weddings because they can be so stuffy and over the top, and our wedding is truly going to be a fun, personal, down home good time! So I’m hoping the fact that our wedding is really just going to be a big ol’ party to celebrate our love and commitment to each to other is what people are going to remember…. And maybe the cotton candy machine if we can get one!!
As for inspiration… Happiness! Jason and I sat down and said “We want to be insanely happy and have fun on our wedding day, how can we do that?”
KA: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?
MyBFsWedding1: That moment right before I walk down the aisle. It’s that last moment before my life changes forever! Where I’m literally leaving behind my life as a single girl and walking towards my life as a married woman! That’s going to be a very powerful and emotional moment for me.
