Knot Name: bbyckes
Wedding Date: July 3, 2010
Knot Annie: Tell me about the Knotties on your board that you post on. Have you ever joined them for a GTG?
bbyckes: The majority of the time, I post on the Etiquette board. Its composed of a group of ladies who are often misinterpreted as snarky. But, nothing could be further from the truth. They are honest, funny and offer sound advice. I feel fortunate that there are many on the board I consider real friends, although I haven’t been fortunate enough to meet any in person yet. There are a couple of GTG’s that I would love to attend, but we haven’t scheduled one close enough to my area yet. However, many Knotties and I are friends on Facebook and I’ve even spoken to a couple by phone!
KA: Describe your wedding.
bbyckes: I currently reside in Atlanta, GA and our wedding was originally scheduled to take place in our home state of California. But, like many others, our budget was impacted by the current economic climate. So, suffice to say, we had to readjust some things. We decided to use our home as our venue and use our current city as a backdrop to host our guests. With some creative planning and with a smaller budget in mind, we have decided on an intimate backyard wedding. We want our day to be focused on appreciating our family and friends. It will be a casual affair full of love, laughter and great food.
KA: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?
bbyckes: The Etiquette Knotties are invaluable! Whether the advice is good or bad, every question poses a learning experience. I have been introduced to customs and traditions I didn’t know existed. I have gotten ideas about photographers, bouquets, cakes, favors, food, etc. You name it; it has been hashed out on the boards. Most importantly, the Knotties have helped me to keep things in perspective. When I had second thoughts on my dress, they talked me down. They have kept me sane and grounded through the planning process.
KA: Favorite bio on The Knot and why?
bbyckes: I have to preface this with, there are so many bios that I love, but my favorite would have to be BecW2be’s. Her bio is a GREAT bio because of her creativity, amazing details and the story of how her and her husband met. She is extremely talented and is the only person who I know who could turn an owl and a bunch of buttons into something amazing. After seeing the pictures of her wedding, it solidified my decision to have a backyard wedding. Her wedding is a perfect example that any venue can be turned into something beautiful and fun!
KA: Best vendor that you’ve worked with and why?
bbyckes: The best vendor so far has been our photographer, Amy Aragon. She is incredibly talented and has been so patient with my billion and one questions.
KA: What will make your wedding stand out to your guests and where did you find the inspiration?
bbyckes: I remember watching the movie, “Rachel Getting Married”, and loved how it made me feel. It is this feeling that I want to replicate. I kept thinking throughout the movie: This is me. The vibrant colors, the openness, the small wedding at home. This is my inspiration. My wedding will stand out to our guests because it will hopefully encompass that feeling. We are planning to capitalize on the holiday weekend and give our guests a taste of Atlanta. There will be sparklers, sweet tea, lemonade, a margarita bar and an ice cream sundae bar. I’m getting excited just thinking about it!
KA: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?
bbyckes: I am most looking forward to members of our family meeting for the first time and Alexander and I making a life commitment in front of them.
