Knot Name:  Phiaska

Wedding Date: 3-13-10

Knot Annie: Tell me about the Knotties on your board that you post on. Have you ever joined them for a GTG?

Phiaska: I post on two boards, my local Los Angeles board and the March 2010 board.  My local board was instrumental in helping me find vendors and get ideas for things that I'm going to incorporate into my wedding, but I share a special bond with the March 2010 knotties  because we're all going through the same thing at the same time.  It's fun to share what items we've checked off our lists, and in many cases, their checks remind me of something I might have forgotten!  I haven't joined the L.A. Knotties for a GTG yet, but I have met one of the brides from the board and went to her wedding!

KA: Describe your wedding.

Phiaska: We're a little offbeat and our wedding will be no exception.  We're getting married at the City Club on Bunker Hill which is this amazing private club on the 54th floor of one of the buildings in downtown Los Angeles.  It has floor to ceiling windows and views that reach from Catalina Island to the Hollywood sign.  We'll be married around sunset and are trying to plan a few surprises for our guests.  My FI and I are going to wear custom leather Jack Purcells, mine in red - his in black, and our entire bridal party will be wearing custom Chuck Taylor converse shoes that we're giving to them as gifts.

We designed our own invitation using the font from one of his favorite movies, Dr. Strangelove, and I'm walking down the aisle to "I do, I do, I do" by ABBA.  My cousin is going to perform the ceremony and FI is trying to convince me to have him doing wearing an Abraham Lincoln costume and talk about the "state of our union."

KA: How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?

Phiaska: With regard to vendor referrals and special sales they've heard about, the Los Angeles knotties have been unbelievable help.  They and the March gals are so supportive and it feels great to be able to post a photo of my hair or makeup trial and get so many opinions, and seeing their photos has helped me figure out what I want for mine.  Also, their photos are inspirational -- I just hope my own wedding will appear that put together when the time comes!

KA: Favorite bio on The Knot and why?

Phiaska: I don't usually look at the bios very often, but I did check out Tillea's and I love her spirit.  She always gives a very honest and thought out opinion and I really admire her for that.

KA: Best vendor that you’ve worked with and why?

Phiaska: Unfortunately, my venue coordinator, Kim Kelley has recently been laid off from the City Club last week, but hands down, I would have said she was the best.  I haven't met her replacement yet, and I was shocked to find out she was gone six weeks before my wedding is to take place.  They didn't even call me to let me know!  I found out when I contacted her to find out about the rehearsal time and they transferred me to somebody else.  With Kim being gone, I have to say that the person I turn the most to now is my DOC, but I'm a little biased because she's one of my closest friends and after this wedding we're thinking about going into business together.  My FI is in LOVE with our videographer, David Robin (www.davidrobinfilms.com).  He's a true filmmaker and he's going to give our wedding the unique, amazing angle we're going for.

KA: What will make your wedding stand out to your guest and where did you find the inspiration?

Phiaska: I think the venue is really going to be the thing most people remember.  The City Club is awe-inspiring.  My FI co-wrote the book L.A. Bizarro, which is a guidebook to strange things one can do in Los Angeles, and this place gives you a 360 degree view of everything he loves (and hates) about the city.  It also has what may be the most incredible view from a men's urinal on the planet!

KA: What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?

IPhiaska: 'm looking forward to the pampering and getting all dressed up.  I'm looking forward to the look on his face when we first see each other.  I'm looking forward to hearing the speeches from my family, and to enjoying an incredible evening literally and figuratively on top of the world!  Oh my gosh, and I'm really looking forward to being introduced as Mrs. Lovett!
