Knot Name: mehgank
Wedding Date: October 2010

Knot Annie: Tell me about the Knotties on your board that you post on. Have you ever joined them for a GTG?

mehgank: The knotties on my board are great, really supportive. I've been a part of the board for about seven months now, and have never had a disagreement with any of them. Unlike some of the other boards on the Knot, I'm never afraid to bring a subject up or fear their responses. My FI and are both active duty military, and the girls on the October 2010 board are extremely supportive and thankful for that. I couldn't imagine being a regular on any other board than the October 2010 board. I feel like I know these girls on more of a personal level than any other board on the Knot.

KA:  Describe your wedding.

mehgank: Our wedding is a perfect blend of both my side of the family and my FI's side of the family. My family is part-French, and FI's family is Mexican-American. The wedding will be held in Ventura, California, and we're going to have a traditional Catholic ceremony, complete with the exchanging of the arras coins and the tying of the lasso around us. The reception is going to be held at FI's parents' house. They have a beautiful backyard surrounded by citrus trees and a broad view of the hills in Santa Paula. We're going to serve traditional Mexican fare for dinner (enchiladas, carne asada, sopapillas, empanadas, etc).

KA:  How have the Knotties on your board helped you plan?

mehgank: They have helped me with advice on marriage-prep courses and taking the FOCCUS test, which are both required by the Church in order for the priest to marry us. Also, I had some questions regarding a prenuptial agreement that they helped me figure out. As well, after about seven months, I still had no idea what I wanted my bridesmaids to wear, but after we included that in a siggy challenge, I was able to find some elegant ones that I know my bridesmaids will love.

KA: Favorite bio on the knot and why?

mehgank: Oh wow, there are so many! I'd have to say I really enjoy perusing lizzonyc’s (our moderator), aprillm730’s, and Gretchen333's bios.

KA:  What will make your wedding stand out to your guests and where did you find the inspiration?

mehgank: I'd have to say my flowers or my dress. My flowers because I'm not having fresh or even silk flowers. They are being handmade by a woman named Diane Phillips in San Jose, California, out of this lightweight clay. She has been featured on Martha Stewart and in quite a few bridal magazines. Her company is called DK Designs, she sells on Etsy.com as well as through her company's website.

My dress because it's so "me" haha! It was the first dress I tried on (I had seen it online prior to my appointment). I know that my FI's family is pretty traditional and that our wedding would be held at the church, so I didn't want a strapless dress or something overly fitted or too sexy, but I also didn't want something matronly. The dress I chose perfectly highlights my figure with a keyhole back (my best feature, in my opinion), a sweetheart neckline, and a trumpet skirt. The lace has a vintage feel without looking dated.

KA:  What are you looking forward to most on your wedding day?

mehgank:  I'm most looking forward to finally being married and to calling him my husband. I'm also really looking forward to seeing both of our families and all of our friends all together and having a great time celebrating with us.
