"One Ring to Rule them All"

That's a quote from Lord of the Rings.  Geeky - I know.

I have had an idea for what kind of wedding band I wanted for most of our engagement.  But finding someone who will make it has been difficult.  To me, it seems simple - a plain white gold band with a platinum ring through the center.  A two toned/metal wedding band.  I see them all the time for men - just nothing thinner and feminine.

My first problem has been convincing jewelers that No - I do not want more diamonds.  A plain band looks better with my e-ring than a glitzed out wedding band.  And eventually they agree but then I encounter my second problem - no one makes the ring I want.  My third problem is that no one will make it because it seems that it is too difficult to do on a ring that small (3mm).

Then I got what I thought was a break.  When we went to NY, we went back to the store where Honey bought my e-ring.  After working our way through a fairly incompetent rep, we caught up with the original  salesman.  He seemed fairly confident that he could accomplish my goal.  But then 15 minutes later he called back and said his supplier would not make the ring as they were afraid I would not like it or it might break.

Then we casually stopped in at Tiffany & Co. where we found not a 3mm but a 2mm two tone band just as I had been describing.  I could deal with 2mm, but it had one other flaw: its rose gold.  Tiffany's is apparently above white gold and will not use this metal in their wedding collections.

Skunked again.

So the search continues but at least I know now that it is possible.  So if not by April, perhaps for some future wedding anniversary?
