Would You Serve This Groom's Cake?

Posted Friday, May 30, 2008 10:45 AM

The groom's cake is one wedding detail where there's a lot of room for creativity, whether it's for an avid golfer or designed in the shape of a turntable. (Check out 65+ more groom's cake ideas). One great real wedding featured on our site -- Jennifer and Kyle in Center Point, TX -- includes a unique football-inspired groom's cake. We see a lot of sports teams represented in groom's cakes, and being a huge Maryland Terps fan, I'm left to wonder whether my future bride would be okay with displaying an artfully-made cake in the shape of turtle.

What do you think: Love or hate the idea of a sports team groom's cake?

If that is what he really wanted or was really into I would.  My FI is really into Nascar and if he wanted a cake that looked like a car I would be okay with it.

My FI is a huge NASCAR and WWE fan. He orinigally wanted a car detailed like his favorite driver's, but I think he ended up with something WWE-related. I don't mind it since he is letting me do whatever I want; he can have his one detail.

I love the idea of a sports groom's cake, actually. FI is really into Auburn football and the Redskins. If he decides he wants a groom's cake, we'll probably try to craft something related to either of those, especially since the wedding cake will be more formal.

I would totally serve this cake! I mean why not? Not everything on our wedding day has to be serious and proper! Honestly, I wish the bride got to have her own funny cake! Hmmm...That is something to think about!

That's an armadillo, not a turtle :)

The only thing worse than one giant ugly centerpiece posing as desert - is two giant ugly centerpieces posing as desert. Wedding cake is disgusting, spend the money on cookies or pie and make the dance floor your rooms focal point instead.

I am definitely serving a groom's cake! My FI loves skiing, and I googled this adorable cake designed like a ski run with a skier running into a tree. It was perfect! :-)

I do not like the idea of a grooms cake at all - no matter how it is decorated. Weddings to me are about coming together and being one. I think the idea of two cakes is awkward and adds expense. There are other ways to personalize the wedding to each persons taste. Save the special cake for his birthday when it can be fully appreciated.
