Bridal Fashion: Chi Pao Perfection

Weddings are steeped in tradition: something blue, trading rings, wearing a veil... but a gown with so much history is rarely seen.
Except (let the history lesson begin) in Chinese tradition. Manchu women (1644) wore one-piece long dresses known as a chi pao (or qipao). At the turn of the 20th century, China was influenced by Western fashion and the chi pao evolved into a more form fitting gown. By the 1950’s, the traditional dress became available in varying lengths and fabrics. And today Modern Chinese often celebrate their heritage by including the chi pao during wedding celebrations (sometimes changing into multiple styles throughout the course of the festivities)
And, while we adore the idea of wearing a traditional gown, finding one is not always such a treat. That's why we fell in love with Racy Ming's designs. Her gowns blend tradition and custom with contemporary American style making it easy for any modern day bride to find a Chi pao to suit her own personal style.
