Wedding Dresses: Would You Wear a Blue Wedding Gown?

Posted Tuesday, July 29, 2008 10:19 AM

Who says you have to have a white wedding? These days, many brides are ditching the puffy white princess dresses and opting for less traditional gowns that reflect their personality. Ellen, a rocker chick from Minneapolis, Minnesota, always knew she didn’t want to wear white. Instead, she chose a silk charmeuse strapless dove-gray blue Grecian-inspired gown by Oscar de la Renta for her laid back wedding in an art gallery.

What do you think? Would you wear a non-traditional wedding gown -- if so, what color?

Stay tuned for more details of Ellen and Rob’s artsy wedding in The Knot Minnesota Spring/Summer 09 issue.

My wedding gown is white... and I had "The Dress" feeling when I put on the sample in the store :) I'm pretty adventurous, but I'm sticking to tradition on this idea!

i dont think i could have picked a completely different color for my dress. mine is all white with the old lace and beads. i wouldnt have minded getting the all white with red though i find that looks very sharp. but kudos for being so adventerous and wearing blue!

Wait... blue is non-traditional?

No no no...

WHITE is non-traditional.

Blue has been popular since the middle ages (possibly before)... white's been popular since Victorian times.

What's wrong with a little tradition anyway? Really, unless you are religious isn't that what married is about anymore, anyways? I have to admit though, I always knew i didn't want an all white dress..I wanted a little punch of color in it. I am very happy with my white and red dress!

I'm wearing a red dress with a white train. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I always found the white dress to be very boring.

Before Queen Victoria wore a White Wedding Gown, it was traditional for the bride to wear her best dress. Why spend thousands of dollars on a dress you're only going to wear once?

PS - I'm wearing a red dress, but considered wearing blue for a while.

It seems to be the new theme on Bridezilla to wear a Blue Wedding dress.

I'm not feeling it truthfully. . . . I'm dreaming of a Pronovia or Monique Lhuiller dress in antique off white lace -- call me traditional or wateva I LOVE LACE! LOL.

my dress is red as well. I think you need to go with whatever you feel your best in, be it red, blue or white.

I just bought a shapphire blue prom dress, for my wedding gown- it is beautiful. I tried all the ivory & white wedding gowns, and didnt feel anything. When i put the blue one on as a joke- I fell in love. My grandmother who was with also told me to look no futher for I found my dress.

Wedding tradition and colors are white and black. I personally wouldn't wear blue but I don't know for sure. Never seen any interesting blue wedding gowns to definitely say if I do or don't like them :) I'm already having trouble finding Plus Size Wedding Dresses as it is, cause I have a few extra inches in the waist, so I'll just stick with the classy white gown, thank you very much.

I always thought that I would wear white. I wasn't against the idea of other colors, but it wasn't for me. I like the white, it said "bride" to me. Then I found a Renaissance inspired dress. It was the most beautiful dress I'd ever seen and I gasped. I never expected it, but it is my dress.
