Reception Ideas: New First Dance Songs

Posted Friday, September 19, 2008 12:58 PM

"At Last" by Etta James and "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green will always be classic first dance songs, but we're hearing about a lot of couples going with less traditional selections for their first spin on the dance floor. Here are a few from recently-featured real weddings: Angellique & Adrian danced to Coldplay's "Green Eyes," Corrine & Dan chose "The Luckiest," by Ben Folds, and Nikki & Nick's first dance was to "First Day of My Life," by Bright Eyes. Check out more real brides' first dance picks.

I really like the idea of doing your first dance to a newer song that's significant to your relationship, but it makes me wonder: Which songs from the last 10 years do you think could become the time-tested, classic first dance songs a decade from now?

re: Reception Ideas: New First Dance Songs

I was just having this same conversation with one of my co workers who is also getting engaged.  A lot of couples are picking new modern and non traditional songs.  I am planning to dance to Stick Wit U by Pussycat Dolls with my soon to be hubby.  The lyrics of the song are great and I feel like it makes us somewhat unique.  : )

go to BigDaySong.com and have your very own, unique love song written just for you to dance to for your first song. this is what my fiance and i are doing.. no one else will ever have our first song, and it's so sweet what the composer wrote. check it out! the prices are totally reasonable AND you get a CD with the song on it, the lyrics and a plaque where you can put a pic of you and your future hubs!
