Escort Card Ideas -- Paper Planes

Okay, so for Jen and Thor's wedding in Readington, NJ, these airplane-shaped, DIY escort cards made a lot of sense: The groom is a pilot and the venue was a hangar at an airport. But I think they'd be cute for any destination wedding (your guests have to fly to get there) or travel-themed one.

I would also like to know where there came from.

My fiance is also a pilot and we too are having our reception in a hangar! I would love to use these. Any info on where to find them or how to make them? Thanks!

re: Escort Card Ideas -- Paper Planes

This looks like a great idea. I'm curious as to where they are from.

We got the airplanes from my family's business, Solberg Airport, where they sell them in their gift shop.  They are made of balsa wood.  To make them, we spray painted the planes with a gold paint and then hand wrote the guest names with a sharpie type marker.  If you are interested in getting some of the airplanes, send me an email at info@solbergairport.com.

re: Escort Card Ideas -- Paper Planes

Originally I wanted paper planes to be tossed as we were leaving, do you know where I could get something like that? I think these would be too nice to throw, haha, but I was looking for something that could even have our name and date on it. Any ideas?

Thanks for responding, Jen!

dclark: If you want to throw paper planes, I'd suggest a DIY project: Get solid-colored papers in your signature hues from an art store or buy gorgeous, patterned folding papers from origamipaperstore.com, and fold 'em like paper airplanes! Any little brother or cousin would probably happily fold all 150 for you (if he gets to toss some). Make sure your photographer gets a shot of your guests throwing them at your wedding!

You can find them here...but you will have to paint them:

re: Escort Card Ideas -- Paper Planes

The balsa wood airplanes we sell at Solberg Airport come with no pre-printing on them and they are plain wood color.  The airplanes we used in our wedding (pictured in this article) had some printing on them and it took us 3 and sometimes 4 coats of paint to completely cover them.  Ours were also a 9 inch wingspan and were a little bit larger than we would have liked.  To solve both problems, the wooden airplanes we have available at Solberg Airport are the slightly smaller 8 inch wingspan model and they are just plain wood.  The link below has pictures and prices.
