Modern Takes on Classic Wedding Cakes

From far away, this cake looks like any traditional wedding cake, but up close, you can see the contemporary spiral pattern. I can't get over how subtle the difference is!

I absolutely love the fun, casual, yet elegant feel of this cake! I have looked at an uncountable number of cake pictures, only to stop looking now. This is what my fiance and I have been looking for — the perfect inspiration for our own cake. Just in time too. Only about 7 weeks until our big day and we can finally call a meeting with our cake decorator.

I am so glad to hear that! Send us a picture of your cake after the wedding! And have a great time!

That cake is amazing!!  I think this is what we have been looking for.  One question: does your cake have fondant?

I was wondering the same about the cake icing ... is it fondant or soft spreadable icing? I'm hoping to accomplish this with butter cream ... (bad experience cutting a fondant wedding cake ... made a mess of it and the fondant doesn't taste so good ... then again, the cutting issue could have just been inexperienced me!)

That's a buttercream cake with fabric ribbon trim - no fondant there!

Oh that's great!  My reception venue supplies the wedding cake and they just told me that they can't do fondant work, so I've had to start looking for a cake style without fondant.  Thanks!
