"What would be the harm of permitting gay men and lesbians to marry?" This was the question Judge Vaughn R. Walker posed to lawyer, Charles J. Cooper two weeks ago in a California court room: "Your honor, my answer is: I don't know," Mr. Cooper said. "I don't know."
Mr. Cooper's goal had been to get Judge Vaughn to dimiss a lawsuit, which seeks to establish a constitutional right to same-sex marriage. Following Mr. Cooper's I-don't-know concession, Judge Walker denied his motion in a ruling that has been viewed by some gay rights advocate as a bit of hope.
Hats off to you Judge Walker!
