Courthouse Wedding Reception - Throw a Cake Cutting Party!

Posted Friday, August 13, 2010 5:05 PM

One of our favorite editors, who used to work on TheNest.com, Hallie Goodman, sent us this idea...

From Hallie: "I went to the coolest wedding celebration ever. My friends, Matt and Tiffany threw what they called a cake cutting party. The duo had been quietly married earlier in the week at  NYC’s historic City Hall. So the party that my husband and I attended at a bistro-style restaurant near Union Square was their unique reception idea. Though the setting was uber-casual (think penny tiles, farm tables, and wainscoting), the bride and groom wore formal wedding attire (Tiff looked gorgeous).

The tables were set for tea, with cute touches like daisies in mason jars and yummy fig tea-cakes. Matt and Tiffany arrived a few minutes after all the guests, then read their (very personal and touching) vows to each other, and cut the cake. There was a champagne toast, coffee, and of course …cake.

The whole things lasted a mere two hours – and in that time, I laughed, I cried and I ate a great-big piece of cake. Brilliant!

I thought it was such a cool way to celebrate. It was really light and fun – but the vow exchange made it meaningful."

Thanks Hallie and congrats Matt and Tiffany!
