Cake Ideas: Cool Cake Toppers

Tired of seeing traditional bride and groom cake toppers? Lots of couples are finding fun new ways to top off their cakes.

You don’t have to part with the basic bride and groom topper for a different look. Dana and Kirk’s cake topper definitely got guests laughing. This topper adds a unique extra with a stern, hands-on-hips bridezilla and a runaway groom -- complete with a ball and chain.

Think monograms are formal? Not when you use them to top off your cake! Monogrammed toppers are a great comprise between formal and funky. Brittany and Casey’s cake topper used funky, decorative letters and jeweled accents to give an old-school monogram a modern makeover.

And for the most daring toppers of them all -- trade in all tradition and use a topper that ties in your wedding theme, the location, or something that you and your fiance love. Yvonne and Bill used a ukulele-playing couple for their Hawaiian wedding. The topper was the perfect, playful addition to the colorful orchid-adorned cake.

Will you keep it simple or have some fun when it comes to leading guests to their tables? Check out some of these great ideas.
Mary and Phil worked their signature color, sunshine yellow, into their big day in Toledo, Ohio.
Jen and Gabe wed in Stockton Springs, Maine and used white-framed chalkboards to draw guests to their seats.
Liz and Zack named tables after some of their favorite places, including their childhood homes at their Sagaponack, New York affair.
At this seaside celebration, tables were named with the beachy theme in mind and hung from chairs.

Real Wedding Ideas: A Yellow and Pink Wedding in Bryn Athyn, PA

We recently spotted this gorgoeus buttery yellow wedding on photographer Laura Novak's blog.

The couple, Dina and Leo, planned a small wedding celebration at the Cairnwood Mansion in Bryn Athyn. Bold shots of pink peonies and tulips brightened the reception centerpieces (also accented with lemons), while the invites and cake took on a more subtle, elegant look.

Ceremony Ideas: Revamped Ring Bearer Pillows

Having little ones in your wedding? We've come across cool new ring bearer ideas for every kind of ceremony!

This natural, moss-covered ring bearer pillow was tied with a pretty pink satin bow, making it the perfect blend of au naturel and elegant. The pillow complemented Lauren and Mike's outdoor spring wedding and the bright colors incorporated the couple's green and pink color palette.

A bright-hued bed of blooms -- like the green kermit mums used for the ring bearer's pillow at Stephanie and Josh's wedding -- is another idea for a spring ring bearer. Fastening the individual mums with iridescent green pins and topping the pillow off with a more muted green ribbon adds a pretty, modern flair.

Having a beach wedding? A cool and casual shell -- like the one used in Michele and Scott's California wedding -- is the perfect place to put your rings. The shell was just as laid-back as the couple's barefoot, oceanside vows.

Or go fancy and formal with your ring pillow like Elizabeth and Matthew did at their beachside fall wedding. The bride custom-made this elegant accessory. The pillow was the epitome of elegance with its plum-colored raw silk, delicate beaded appliques, crystal tassels, and velvet ribbon to secure the rings in place.

Looking for ways to entertain your guests beyond the dance floor? At Christie and Owen's wedding in Ontario, the couple hired two professionals to roll cigars for their guests. It's not the first time we've heard of a cigar rolling stand at a wedding, but this is a great example of using unique entertainment to pull a theme together: Along with mojito kit favors and salsa lessons at the reception, the cigar rollers added a lot to the “Miami nightclub” vibe the couple was going for.

Bridal Party Style: Big Ideas for the Little Ones

Do you have any unique ideas that you're planning for your flower girls and ring bearers? We got so inspired by some of these fun and stylish ideas.

Alisha and Trevor hosted their outdoor fete in Lodi, California by carrying out their pink and green theme with everyone in the party. The ring bearers wore pistachio colored ties while the girls got fancy in pink and white dresses.

Don't forget to accessorize! Instead of a traditional flower basket, Lindsay and Luke had their little ladies in floral printed frocks and carrying petite white buckets filled with petals. A bright ribbon topped it off.

Leigh and Keenan kept a chic and classic vibe going at their Sedalia, California wedding. Their girls wore white dresses with bouquets that looked just like the bride's!

Wedding Cake Ideas: Table Cakes

Cake, centerpiece, table name, edible favor -- or all of the above? This multipurpose minicake from Brittany and Jason's Minneapolis, MN wedding works overtime in the wedding department.

Forget using flowers as centerpieces and treat your guests to something sweet. Each cake was wrapped in different patterned fondant to mimic gift-wrapping paper and sweetly tied together with an edible bow. Not only did each cake act as a centerpiece -- they also had an edible gift tag with the table number on it to direct the guests to their seats. The cakes came in four different flavors, including white cake with fresh raspberries and devil's food cake with Bailey's Irish Cream. "They tasted amazing!" attests the bride. Functional and delicious? Whatever you call this cool confection it definitely takes the cake.

Planning a winter wedding? Nix the traditional heavy reds and blacks color palette. For their January 12 wedding, Lara and Daniel decided to use a wintry color palette of pewter, blue, and white. The bridesmaids’ cool, metallic pewter color make for an elegant (and not stuffy) look.

Elegant extras like ruffled hemlines and dainty black sashes also give these winter bridesmaids a fresh look. The best part of these dresses might be the back -- a deep V cut heightens the dress’ drama. The dress itself is so versatile, elegant, and updated that it truly is a bridesmaid dress that "can be worn again" (and again, and again…seriously).
