Offensive Vents (Part I: Bridesmaids)

Posted Saturday, March 24, 2007 5:24 PM

I recently asked my maid of honor and bridesmaid to choose their own accessories and other bridesmaid "stuff" with one requirement: hair in updo.  I thought I was being pretty flexible -- until they both complained about not wanting their hair up.

It might not seem like a big deal, but obviously it was important enough for me to make that one request.  I first tried dealing with the situation like I would at work -- I calmly explained my reasoning behind the decision and asked them to make an effort to adhere to the only guideline I gave them.  But a few days later, the maid of honor brought it up again.  And again.  In the end, I caved in simply because I did not want to deal with the guilt and constant questioning.

When we first got engaged, I strived to not be one of those brides who dictated everything their bridesmaids did.  Now, I think it may have been a smaller headache if I'd just told them what to wear and how to do their hair.  And believe me, if I can just let it go and get it over with, I would have already :(

That's funny. I am letting my bridesmaids pick their own dresses (from the same designer), their own hair, their own accessories, their own shoes, etc. One of them turned into a bridesmaidzilla for a while and insisted they all had to match! I kept trying to explain that they didn't all have to look like clones and they were all different looking anyway. She said "but something has to coordinate". I said, "something will; you will be wearing the same color dress and you will all be in my wedding." Isn't that enough?
