Emotional Times . . .

Posted Friday, May 18, 2007 1:40 AM

Yay, I just cried through the entire episode of Grey's Anatomy Season Finale . . .  especially the part when Dr. Burke was reciting his vows.  I sure hope this is not a predicament of how I will behave at my own wedding.

Earlier tonight, one of my friends pinged me on AIM asking me if he could bring a guest to our wedding.  We've mentioned several times to our friends that we simply couldn't afford inviting plus-ones who weren't significant others.  I was so irritated that my friend would ask me such a question this close to the wedding, after we've already sent out all of the invitations (and mind you, this was not the first friend who asked) that I closed my AIM session and ignored his question.  Call me hormonal, emotional, bridezilla, whatever.  My tolerance for other people has simply hit rock-bottom.

Sigh, the wedding stress is finally getting to me.

Ring ring! Ring ring!

Posted Monday, May 07, 2007 6:39 PM

Wow, that title sure is cheesy.

So on Friday, we finally picked up our wedding bands!  Whee!  Mine is a simple 2.5 mm platinum band, and my fiance's is a custom-made ring with a design similar to one from Christian Bauer.  The real deal was going to cost double the price so we simply couldn't justify the money.

The engraving wasn't exactly as I'd expected, but I guess it is not a big deal (or at least that's what I keep telling myself).  I'm just glad to have one more thing checked off my list :)  Yay!

Other things that are on my plate currently:

- Waiting for cake topper to arrive
- Mailing hostess thank you gifts for bridal shower
- Picking up the wedding dress (whee!!)
- Finishing the veil with FMIL
- Finishing the favors
- Making some decisions on the flowers
- Some other stuff I've forgotten . . .

Invitations! Bachelorette Party! Registry! Marriage License! Centerpieces! Done done done!

Wow, so I guess this is it; there's no turning back.  We mailed the invitations on Friday and many of our guests have already informed us that they received our invitations.  The registry is done (for the most part . . . as done as it'll ever get anyway).  I bought some votive candle holders and vases from a fellow knottie, and we got our marriage license this morning at the local courthouse.  My fabulous bachelorette party was on Saturday, and my bridal shower is on the upcoming Saturday.

I shall have to expand on the invitations, centerpieces, and bachelorette party later in the week.

Oops: No More Surprise Honeymoon

Posted Saturday, April 14, 2007 9:32 PM

A friend dropped off the gorgeous hairpins that I'll be using at my wedding) earlier today and brought me some cookies as well.  Of course, immediately after she left, my fiance and I sat on the couch and began munching.  In the mist of all the cookie-excitement, FI forgot to close his laptop and I looked over and . . .

Well, we're going to Costa Rica!

Wedding Colors

Posted Sunday, April 01, 2007 4:50 AM

Awww boo.  I'm totally regretting choosing a lighter pink (i.e. Blossom from Paper Source) instead of a darker pink (i.e. Strawberry from PS) to pair with the chococlate brown and white.  Booooooo.  Oh well, I guess it's too late, now that I've done all of the invitations and everything.

I've had my doubts since day one of choosing wedding colors . . . and somehow I didn't end up going with my gut.  I don't know why.  Pure stupidity, I guess.

On another note: There are 75 days left until our wedding day and I have 20 overdue items on the Knot's checklist.  Yay for (lack of) productivity!  In my defense, many of these 20 items are semi-half-way-50-percent done.  So really, it's not that bad, right?

Yay for Rings and Gifts!

Posted Sunday, April 01, 2007 2:38 AM

We received our first official wedding gift in the mail on Friday!  It is a gigantic box of 12 water goblets from Crate and Barrel from one of my fiance's relatives.  Just to think, we haven't even sent out our invitations yet . . . whoa.  I guess it's time I get working on those suckers again :)

On another note, we ordered our wedding rings from Icing on the Ring today.  Yay!!!  I got a simple 2.5mm platinum band and my fiance chose a platinum ring that resembles one we saw from Christian Bauer.  We're both having "J+W 06.16.07" engraved inside :)  Yaaaaaaaaaay [insert bridal squeal here] so so excited!

Where is my ribbon wand / rainbow lollipop when I need it?

Music in My Ear

Posted Thursday, March 29, 2007 7:29 AM

When we first chose our venue, we were a little worried about the coordinator that came with our package -- namely, the coordinator would be a student from the university where we'll be having our wedding.  However, after having dealt with the group of student coordinators for a few times, my confidence for the coordinators have definitely been raised.

Yesterday, I called the event office of my venue with a few of my concerns / questions for the day of the wedding.  I learned that:

a) they no longer put that (ugly) tulle over the string lights on the bridge (yay!);

b) they will assign a staff member to guard my gifts to address my concern over theft;

c) they will decorate the cake table -- a.k.a. one less thing for me to think about; and

d) they will put together my centerpieces for me at no extra charge!

Note that they are also arranging my place cards, favors, and just about everything a day of coordinator would do.  At the end of the call, the lady said, "we'll take as much of the load off of you as possible because we know you'll be busy on that day."  O, how I love thee!

A Semi-Productive Weekend

Posted Tuesday, March 27, 2007 2:31 AM

Over the weekend, my future-in-laws (teehee) came over to help us with some wedding activities:

(1) Cake Tasting

I have been waiting for this for such a long time.  We went to Rossmoor Bakery to try five different kinds of cakes, and ultimately chose a three-tier round cake with five layers within each major layer (if that makes any sense at all):

white cake + raspberry chocolate bavarian creme + chocolate cake + raspberry chocolate bavarian creme + white cake

It is heavenly.  The cake is moist and the filling is fabulous.  The buttercream frosting is nice and smooth to achieve the fondant look without the craptastic fondant taste.  The only problem is the design we have in mind (various sizes of dotted circles in our colors overlappinig each other) is considered an enhancement so I'm waiting for the quote on the extra charge.  Boooo.  I was really hoping to check it off our list of to-dos.

(2) Tux Hunting

We went to Men's Warehouse to pick out tuxes since we'd obtained a discount from a bridal show we went to back in August of last year.  It turned out: (a) we couldn't try on tuxes there, which I knew beforehand thanks to other knotties; (b) we need to bring swatches of my dress and the bridesmaid dresses in order to pick out the vests / ties.  In the end, we at least created a group account and picked out the tux styles.  Oh well, another item half done.

 (3) Veil Hunting

Long time ago, I'd asked FMIL to make my veil for me.  To me, a veil is a piece of tulle that should not cost more than 30 bucks, so purchasing it from a store is not an option.  We first went to David's Bridal to try on various styles of veils, and I decided on a diamond-white single-layer fingertip length veil with silver threaded edge and crystals scattered on the bottom.  We then went to Joann to look at patterns, and finally went to Michael's to look for the comb.

Well, FMIL wants to purchase a veil that is already made and attached to a comb from Michael's and then put crystals on it ourselves . . . hmmmmm but, it's not the right shade of white!  Besides, it's probably not as good quality of tulle as those that are sold at Joann by the yard!  Not to mention, she rolled her eyes when I mentioned how I was going to buy Swarovski crystals to place on the veil because regular glass beads just weren't good enough for me.

In the end, the veil is yet another item that is half done.  Hence the "semi-" portion of the title.
