One Week Left

Posted Saturday, May 17, 2008 1:14 PM

I can finally say I get married in a week.  Wow the time has flown by.  I'm really happy with the way things have come together, the next week should be pretty stress free.  Well as long as the weather forecast remains decent.

I only have to work Monday and Tuesday, then I'm off the rest of the week.  On Wednesday Tim and I will spend the day finishing any errands and getting ready to head to IC on Thursday.  As soon as we get his tux we can head home and get stuff organized there.  My mom also only has to work on Monday, so she'll have plenty of time to help with all last minute details.  Unfortunately, Tim's parents aren't coming over till Friday in time for the rehearsal, so they won't be much help (like I was counting on it anyways!).

I'm surprisingly calm as I think of my last week as a (technically) single woman.  The only thing I'm disappointed in is the fact that we won't be going on our honeymoon as planned.  No money=no honeymoon.  Our budget just covers all the wedding day expenses, nothing extra.  We can't really count on wedding gift money, when we have no idea how much that will be, and I would hate to drive all the way to Niagara and be forced to turn right around because we didn't have any money.  Oh well, we'll have a great Sunday night at the Thomas Edison Inn in Port Huron.  Maybe we can save over the next year, and go on our planned honeymoon, or maybe even a tropical one for our one year anniversary!!  That would be great!

The Pressure is On.

Posted Saturday, January 05, 2008 9:44 PM

So we're down to less than 5 months to go.  Where did the time go?  I can actually say that I am getting married this year!  How crazy is that!  I'm taking 4 days off work next week to head home and get wedding stuff done.  I have a list of almost a dozen things that I need to get done.  The big things being talking to pastor, meeting with cake lady, and getting the contract for our reception site as they have had the $$ for 2 months already!  If I can get those things done next week, when I come back I can work on little projects like the cardbox and table names/numbers.  I also have to get the FG dresses ordered and my MOH is the only one who hasn't ordered her dress yet.  I can't wait to start my dress alterations, but I need to get shoes first!  Ah, I just keep coming up with stuff that needs to get done.  I'm giving Tim a small list of things for him to do while I'm gone next week.  Right now it is only like 3 things, so it is definately manageble considering he has 4 days to do it!  lol.

Tim did mention money last week as he was stressing about not having enough to pay all vendors by the wedding day.  When we sat down to discuss it we were able to figure out that we should be fine.  Especially if we can get any money from our parents.  FIL's did give us the deposit for photographer, but nothing else, so maybe they will give us more?

I'm excited that the pressure is starting to turn up.  Being engaged since Sept of '06 has given me plenty of time to generate ideas and think about what I want.  But now I actually need to implement those ideas.  The next 4 1/2 months ought to be pretty interesting, we'll just have to see!

Under 10 months to go...

Posted Saturday, July 28, 2007 10:59 PM

Well the countdown continues, and we're under 10 months now.  Finally got the photographer confirmed which was stressing me out since he told me over a month ago that every other weekend around my date was booked.  Still need to get the hall confirmed, but that's not worrying me that much.  We have plans to talk to the officiant and caterer when we go to my hometown in 2 weeks.  That certainly makes wedding planning harder, living 2 hours from the wedding location.  Not impossible, but I could use my mom taking a more proactive role.  She loves to share her opinion when I don't agree with her, but she really hasn't done much to help at this point.  I'm really organized so she hasn't needed to do much, but I'm afraid that it will continue this way for the next 9 months.  Yeah I'm not looking forward to having to motivate both my mom and fiance.  We'll just have to see how things go.

We've reserved our hotel for the honeymoon.  We decided that we can't really afford to go some place exotic like Costa Rica or Hawaii, so we stuck with something very traditional...Niagara Falls.  Neither of us has been there before, and I think that we'll like it a lot.  I did quite a bit of research on the hotels and b&b's in the area, as well as looking at reviews by other ppl that have stayed there.  We found a nice b&b that has a jacuzzi in our room.  It's not far from the water.  I'm excited about going, even if it isn't my dream honeymoon.  I just have to keep my fingers crossed that the gov't doesn't change the passport requirements, or we're both going to have to get passports instead of just being able to use our birth certificates.

The Beginning

Posted Sunday, March 18, 2007 11:10 PM

So I've been planning my wedding for ages.  I'm not one of those girls that grew up knowing what her wedding would entail.  But pretty much once Tim and I started to get serious and he didn't run when I mentioned the "W" word, I began thinking about what I wanted.  Yeah I pestered him about the ring, but that came in due time and he surprised me with what he had picked out.  Once I officially had the ring I went in high-planning gear.  So having had the ring for 6 months, here's what I've managed to plan thus far.

  1.  The wedding dress was purchased in January.  My mom was a little disappointed that I went dress shopping without her and ended up finding my dress.  But on one of her trips over here we stopped by the dress shop and I tried on the dress for her, so she knows just how good it looks on me.  The dress should be in by April 6th, then I'll have plenty of time to hold on to it before I'll need it to be altered.

  2.  Well it took me awhile of searching, but I finally found a videographer that I liked and was way cheap.  She's giving us everything we want and it will only cost us $600.  I was figuring that I was gonna have to go with some that would cost over $1000, but then I got an email regarding a post that I had done on a wedding events site from Holly.  We corresponded via email, hashed out the contract, and signed the contract the beginning of March.

  3.  I actually found the dj at a wedding I attended back in July.  The dj had a great variety of music, including polka songs for my grandparents.  He did a great job as the emcee keeping the flow of the reception going.  And his attutude is awesome and he should get along well with the guests.  We met him in mid-March for lunch and he answered all the questions we had and we signed the contract then and there.  It was so nice not to have to search and compare djs.  By getting his card at the reception I guaranteed that I would be able to contact him later, and I didn't have to try to figure out how he works.  I really should thank John and Megan, for making this one aspect so much easier for me.

  4.  The guest list is pretty well finalized.  We're looking at about 275 guests.  Pretty much planning on 250 guests, since not everyone will be able to attend.  I may be able to invite a few friends that I'm not necessarily that close to, but if some family members decline I'll be able to include these "b" list people.  I'm not sure how I would feel about being on someone's "b-list", but that's reality. Not everyone can get invited if we're going to stick to any kind of budget.

  5.  Many of the things that we're going to do are going to be DIY projects.  The flowers bouquets, centerpieces, decorations, invitations, save-the-date reminders, and possibly some of the food.  So instead of worrying about a professional doing these things, I'm going to have to pick out everything and then help my mom make these things.  Well the invitations will be printed on my computer.

I'm pretty happy with what I've accomplished thus far.  I still have more than a year to go before the big day.  But I'm not the type to wait till it actually is a year away to start doing all the planning.  Especially since pretty much everything is going to be done by us.  I've tried to get Tim motivated to help me.  So I've given him the task of researching our honeymoon options, then when he's got all the options figured out we'll discuss is and make the final choice.  I'm really hoping for someplace in the Caribbean.  We'll just have to see what he comes up with.
