Jake and I were visiting Chicago when we decided to make a visit to Ikea and Woodfield Mall. First we went to Ikea and I bought one of those plastic grocery bag holders and I was putting it together as we were walking around and it pinched my left hand. Well, Jake wanted to sit down and console me because he thought it was a perfect moment but I didn't want to sit down. Then we went over to Woodfield Mall. Jake had had the ring since the Thursday before we left and it was burning a major hole in his pocket by then (he had it for 5 days at this point!). So, we were wandering around the mall and went into Urban Outfitters and we were looking at all the books and stuff and got to the gag gift section. There was a "Control A Man" remote which is "powered by positive thinking." Well, he showed it to me and we were laughing at it and he handed it to me and told me to see if it works by pressing a button. Well, since I did not think it was going to happen in Chicago, I pushed the 'propose' button. He then hung the remote back up and I was walking away and he told me to come back over to him so I did and he took my hands in his hands and was getting all serious--and I said no several times because I was still under the impression that he didn't have the ring and I didn't want him to propose without a ring. Well, the whole time he had the ring in his hand as he was holding my hands and he was rubbing it on my hand and I finally felt it and ... he asked me to marry him!! :D Needless to say, we bought the remote ;-) He wanted to do it in the city of Chicago--but we didn't go into the city on Tuesday and he couldn't wait any longer. It was a perfect proposal for us!! Very spontaneous and not common.
