ROUNDHILL HOUSE - A - Roundhill House is a beautiful location. It has gorgeous gardens, a beautiful dining room and a dance floor in a separate room. Even though Roundhill House was my second choice, it ended up being everything I had hoped and dreamed of. The staff at Roundhill was extremely accommodating; they made the menu DH and I created and made all the adjustments I requested to the food they had. And everyone loved the food. They said it was amazing. The director of FEAST Caterer's Peter Kupersmith always answered my questions in a timely manner and went out of his way to make sure that I had everything I wanted. He is a good man and I truly believe he wants to give every couple the wedding of their dreams.
PHOTOGRAPHY - JULIA NEWMAN - A+++ Julia is everything I had hoped for and more. She was so much fun to work with, and my guests agree. We got along so well so taking pictures with her felt so natural. And I think that is one of the reasons they turned out as well as they did. Her work is extremely versatile and she is open to new ideas as well. For example, if I saw a picture from another photographer that was not in her portfolio, she was excited to try it herself. Again, I am thrilled with her work and would highly recommend her to anyone and everyone.
DRESS - ELIZABETH FILLMORE (A+++) for BERGDORF GOODMAN (B) What can I say? My dress was a dream. It was everything I had dreamed of and exactly like all of the clipping I had picked out from magazines. I got so many compliments on my dress and I truly felt beautiful in it. The work on was delicate and exquisite. But most of all, it was so me. I was lucky to have found it. Buying my dress at Bergdorf Goodman was wonderful. I actually found my dress at their sample sale. I could never have afforded it otherwise. But even though I was pay 70% less for the dress, they staff was still really helpful. I was not left entirely on my own. The reason for the B is because I later went back there to get some hair accessories and they were less than helpful. They never called me back and never found out where the hair pins I like were from and how much they cost. I called to complain and they gave me to another assistant who promised to help me. But at that point the hair pins were lost and no one could/would help me. I was extremely disappointed that I was treated like this after I had spent money in their salon.
FLOWERS BY DAVID ANTHONY - A+ What can I say? Incredible! I went in to see him with very few ideas except I wanted yellow and I didn't want "traditional". I brought in a few pictures and looked at a few of his and we deconstructed everything and came up with something original and fun. It's like helped me understand that I did know what I wanted and he just read me perfectly and brought it out. He is an artist and it was wonderful working with him. Everything turned out just as I had hoped.
THE DJ SOLUTION - A Stephanie and Jeff were a pleasure to work with. We specifically wanted a dj that was not cheesy. We didn't want maraccas passed out and we certainly didn't want the electric slide. But DH and I definately have different taste in music. He likes punk and I like the old standards as well as 80's and Sarah McLaughlin. They were knowledgeable and were able to accommodate all of our requests. The only reason they do not have + signs is because not alot of people were dancing. Now, this may not be their fault (it probably isn't) but I was hoping it would be a little more of a party. Instead, it was a little more relaxed which is fine and expected for a Sunday afternooon wedding.
Also, part of the package we chose was to have Jeff play during cocktail hour. We did not attend the cocktail hour but I was told he did a beautiful job, and from what I could hear in the distance, that was true. Definately worth the extra money we paid.
OFFICIANT - REV. HILDA GEICO - A+ Hilda is a doll! I mean, a genuine, kind-hearted woman. It was her calm, quiet disposition and knowledge of ceremonies from different cultures that made us choose her. I am Jewish and DH is Catholic but we didn't want a religious ceremony. We wanted a "meaningful" ceremony with traditions from different religions and/or cultures. Hilda created a unique, beautiful ceremony based on a questionairre we both had to fill out describing how we met, our goals for life and marriage and what that commitment meant to us. Everyone couldn't stop telling us how beautiful our ceremony was. I couldn't agree more!
SAVE THE DATES, INVITATIONS, MENUS, PROGRAMS, PLACECARDS - NIC EVENTS - A+++++ Ok, ok...I know that Nicole is one of my best friends, but that is not the reason for the glowing marks. She really came through for me. Not only did she do all of the invites and programs and stuff, but she came up with the overall theme for my wedding. And when I say that I really had no idea what I wanted for my invites, I mean I had no idea. She came up with everything, and I loved it all. So did everyone else. She is just starting in this business, but she is going be really big and successful. Grab her while you can. www.nic-events.net
VIDEOGRAPHY - FRIENDS - TBD I met my friends Anna and Albert when they did the video portion of a show I was in. I loved what they had created on basically no budget so I knew that they would be able to great things for my wedding. I have yet to see the results, but at the wedding they were thorough and professional. A pleasure to have around.
BRIDESMAID DRESSES - KIMERA - A+ Yvonne, the owner of Kimera couldn't have been more helpful. She usually works with silk shantung but I went to her with idea of having cotton sundresses. Everywhere else I went for that either looked at me like I was crazy or wanted to charge upwards of $300. Yvonne went searching for the fabric, allowed my girls to choose any style they wanted for the neckline and skirt, PLUS I had one bridesmaid who was pregnant and another who just had weightloss surgery. She accommodated everything and everyone with grace. Plus she is super affordable. And the outcome was beautiful. Soft yellow sundresses with silk brocade obi sashes. My girls all looked beautiful and unique.
CAKE - THE PASTRY GARDEN - A+ Considering DH is a pastry chef, we were really concerned about the cake. Everyone was expecting our cake to be great. And if it wasn't, we were never going to live it down. Well, it's a good thing our cake was delicous. When we went for the first tasting, we were impressed by the quality, but did not love the flavor selections they had. The owner let DH come up with his own flavors, they researched the recipies and they had us come in for a second tasting. We ended up with chocolate cake with caramel mouse and bananas with buttercream frosting. Amazing!!!!! Plus they worked hard to have the cake mirror the color and images on my invitation. The result was colorful, yet minimalist. I would highly recommend them.
SHOES - PETER FOX - A+ The consultant at Peter Fox was attentive, sweet and very helpful. She stood patiently while my mom and I disagreed on what shoes to buy. They even made a bunch of different colored yellow swatches so I could choose the perfect "lemon" yellow. The shoes were comfortable all day and I was on my feet pretty much the whole time. They cost a little more than I would have liked to have spent, but in my opinion, they were well worth the money. Plus, they will redye them in black for free when I am ready.
HAIR PINS - NELSON D'LEON - A+ The people at Nelson D'Leon were extremely helpful. They customized my hairpins based on the designs they had in their showroom as well as customizing the colors I wanted. I was looking for something with a pop of color and sparkle but nothing too overwhelming. What I got was elegant and sweet. I was thrilled with the result.
GROOM'S SUIT - BANANA REPUBLIC - A+ - The staff at Banana Republic were extremely helpful when it came time to buy DH's suit. We had been to Men's Warehouse where we were treated like dirt, but at Banana we were welcomed and waited on hand and foot. We were there the day after a big storm so the store was empty. So that was a plus. And because we were buying the suit for our wedding and I opened a Banana Republic card, they gave us 25% off our total purchase (normally 15%).
GROOM'S TIE - RAZOR, PARK SLOPE - A+ - The owner of Razor was extremely helpful when it came to finding DH's tie. I had been everywhere, and I couldn't find anything that was quite right. So I went to Razor, which is in my neighborhood and told him what I was looking for. He didn't have what I wanted in stock but went out looking for it. I came back a week later with several choices. We love the tie DH ended up with and it didn't break the bank either! AND HERE ARE SOME MORE WEDDING PICTURES!
