The ceremony begins!
My mom & Michael's grandfather
BEST MAN & MATRON OF HONOR

Our reverend, Victoria Burdick, was outstanding! She knew how important the
Red Sox were to us and some of our initial conversations when we met & our
2nd date was to watch Opening Day together in 2004...she put this Red Sox
insert on her binder for the ceremony & held it up for the guests to see!
Then, as Michael delivered his vows first, he shocked me...he cried through the
whole last part and I'll never forget when he said the line "You make me a
better person" and his voice cracked and he cried harder. Here is the moment
& my reaction...so thankful to have this.

We're MARRIED!!!!

Always making me laugh...

Toast Time! My dad welcomed everyone and toasted, then
our Best Man did a toast, then my best friend's dad, and Five Bridge Inn owner,
Harold, did the blessing. It was great!

Michael enjoying the tales of his BM's speech....

It was great to just watch the guests enjoy themselves. I read this in many
Knottie bios in their day-of thoughts, so we definitely made a point
to do this and it was great!

Time to cut the cake!

Venue: Five Bridge Inn (Rehoboth, MA)
What can I say about Five Bridge!?! It's my best friend's family home. I spent so many days & sleepovers there as a child, that this was a DREAM for our wedding venue. We (the BMs and I) were able to hang out by the pool w/ lunch after a spa morning. Ann, the Innkeeper (and my BFF's mom), made us apple cinnamon pancakes for breakfast on the day of the wedding. Ann and Harold treated us like GOLD and family. She also left my DH and I champagne and cherries in our room to celebrate after everybody had left. It was a dream! None of my guests--except for my family--had ever been to Five Bridge for anything, let alone a wedding, and everybody couldn't get over how breathtaking the grounds were. It really is one of New England's best kept secrets!

Caterer: Fine Catering by Russell Morin (Attleboro, MA & Newport, RI)
From the beginning, Morin's treated us like royalty!!! I was originally working with another coordinator, but she made a career change and we wound up with Laura Goforth as our go-to lady. She was a godsend! She made everything run smoothly! I met with her a few times before the big day--once at the venue to run through where things would be in the tent and then once at the office, where I went over all of my DIY projects and where they should be, etc. I also gave her the control to put things where she saw fit--as this is her job! I figure she's been to so many weddings, she has the professional eye!She arranged all of the linen & chair rentals for me, so I didn't have to go through yet another vendor. Seriously, I cannot emphasize this enough! She was GREAT!!!!!
Also, the food was magnificent. So many people came up to us asking us how we found this caterer and how unique the food was! Many people said they'd never had "wedding food" this good before! That is EXACTLY why it was worth choosing Morins!

Officiant: Reverend Victoria Burdick (New London, CT)
We found Victoria through other Knotties. We're not that religious, and we wanted a pretty secular ceremony, but spiritual. Victoria did deliver! Not only did she tell our guests our story of how we met, dated, and got engaged, but she included details about our passed loved ones and our personalities into the ceremony. The ceremony was touching, emotional, personal, humorous, and completely US! We were so lucky to have her! I will treasure our ceremony forever! She typed it all up & put it in a little binder for us to have as a keepsake. Lots of guests were raving about her all night. When I scanned the auidence during the ceremony, people were laughing and crying....they were glued. That is what we wanted.

Cake: Diane's Delectables (Pawtucket, RI)
I also chose Diane from other Knottie raves. She was awesome! She called me a few times the week prior to the wedding to iron out last details to make sure that the venue & caterer would be all set for the cake delivery. She wrote me the sweetest email after the wedding thanking me and wishing us well. I had a lofty goal for my cake---lots of height--and she definitely delivered! Again, she has something unique to offer--flavors like no one around! The Bailey's cake was a HIT!!! We literally only have one piece left over for our 1st anniversary piece!

Flowers: Flowers by Semia (North Providence, RI)
Semia is a truly talented florist. She is kind and hard working to boot! Her work was outstanding! From the first consultation to the wedding day, Semia was always helpful and responsive. When I had questions or saw pictures I liked, I emailed her and she always provided lots of feedback. She even wore a lime green top for our wedding day to match the scheme!!! Love her! I think you can see how amazing the flowers were from the photos--the bright pinks, greens, and orange were absolutely fantastic! Lots of guests asked me who did the flowers and said they had never seen bouquets (both mine & the BMs) so beautiful. Thank you, Semia!

Photography: Kristin Spencer Photography (Pawtucket, RI)
Photography was the most important vendor for us. Photos are the only thing well have left from the day, so choosing the right artist was important.
Kristin Spencer, and her hubby Jared Spencer, are probably the best photography team in our area. Kristin is much more than a photographer, she is someone I consider a friend. She treats her brides as if they are old high school classmates. How many photographers have big parties every year for their brides and take the girls out for drinks sometimes!?! I didn't give her a huge list of must-take pics because I trust her judgment and eye. From the 1st consultation back in January 07 and now, she has been super responsive, helpful, and fun. I love her work and am so thankful we chose her.

Music: Murray Hill Talent & Flipside (Boston, MA)
My husband was in charge of finding the musicians for the wedding. Both Michael & I are huge live music fans and having a band was a must for us. The big obstacle was WHICH one!?!? Well, Flipside was it! I was a little nervous because we never saw them perform live, but their DVD and previous gigs convinced us. One of the things we liked about them was that they aren't just a wedding band, they play other types of gigs and perform at clubs. Corin Ashley, their manager from Murray Hill Talent (and one of their lead vocals) was a dream to work with! He and the band's sax player played our cocktail hour and Corin found us a string duo for our ceremony.

This band is WORTH it! One of our guests emailed us:
"I can understand why someone would wait two years for "Flipside"......everyone danced at this wedding!"

Favors: RI Photobooths (Pawtucket, RI)
I am not a lover of favors...I usually just toss them or forget to take them. So, when it came time to choose a gift/token for our guests, I wanted it to be something that people just had to love! The photobooth was it! Everybody loved it--plain and simple. Worth every penny! Some engaged couples from the wedding have since booked it for theirs! Yay!

Guests loving their pic:

Decor: Exquisite Events of Newport, Kelli O'Brien (Newport, RI)
I could never have fulfilled my vision for the tent without the help of this company! Kelli is awesome! She was a little hard to get ahold of initially, but her assistant, Casey, was very responsive & helpful. Kelli had so much excitement for my ideas of fabric draping, lights, and paper lanterns. She knew exactly how to do the design. The team started setting up the design on the Wednesday before the wedding and I was able to see it from start to finish. They had about 10-12 people there working for lots of hours to get it all done. The only bump in the road was the team brought the wrong color paper lanterns, but luckily, I was there and saw the mistake and they brought the right color the next day--and Kelli came out to meet me at the venue to make sure I was happy with everything. Kelli was even willing to throw in a few extras for us with no charge. She was just as excited about the design as I was. It was great! The price was more than we had budgeted, but frankly, the decor was worth every penny.

Videography: David Bettencourt (Providence, RI)
Great to work with! Laid back and confident in his work. I haven' received the video yet, but I'm sure it'll rock. My husband and I keep saying over and over "Well, when see the video..... or "I can't wait to see on the video...." So, that tells me we are thankful we decided to get a videographer.

Makeup: Beauty Express (Kristin Greene; Johnston, RI)
Girls, if you want someone to do your makeup, get Kristin. Her talent speaks for itself, but it is her personality and professionalism that puts her above the rest. She is great!!! The BMs loved their makeup too! Thank you, Kristin!!!

Hair: Sara Gravel & the team at Soiree Salon (Riverside, RI)
I am soooooo happy with how my hair came out for the wedding. It was exactly what I wanted!!! I loved it! I have naturally curly hair (especially my bangs) and did not want any hairs hanging down as they would get sweaty and curl up! The humidity was low that day, so I could've pulled that look off, but still wanted to be completely swept back. Sara did a fantastic job! The rest of the BMs got their hair done at the same salon--Soiree. The stylists got us water/wine/snacks and made us laugh and take it easy during the day! Also, Soiree's prices for updos cannot be beat--under $50 a girl! Even mine! This is my regular salon, so I am glad I could give it a great review! My girls looked gorgeous!

Bridal Shop: Bridal & Gift (North Attleboro, MA)
The team at B&G was great for my experience. Once I tried on Maggie Sottero gowns, I knew I liked the way her designs fit my body shape. So, Bridal & Gift was my next stop since they carry a ton of Maggie gowns. I know some people have had mishaps there, but I think it's because the shop is so small and there are SO many dresses and brides that go there, it's tough for them not to get unorganized. They called me when my dress arrived, when my veil arrived, and everything was great. I used one of their shop's seamstresses, who also did my two best friends' gowns when they got married a few years ago. I had a great experience.

Bridesmaid Dresses: Coren Moore (designer) from Flair Bridesmaid Shop (Boston, MA)
Ah, the right color green....such a challenge. I hunted and hunted for months. I finally found THE color I wanted. My girls chose whatever dress they liked the best in a knee length style. The dresses were pricey, around $250-300 depending on style. I decided that this would be the ONLY thing my girls bought for the wedding. They wore silver shoes of their choice and I paid for their hair, manicures, and pedicures. I also made them each their own jewlery set from Swarovski crystals, pearls, and natural gems. My girls all have their own personality & style and I made them sets to match this.
Flair Bridesmaid Boutique was an excellent experience. They staff was so helpful & responsive. I have 7 girls and two of them were pregnant, so they helped us find the right measurements MONTHS before they'd actually show. I also went up with a few girls at a time on different days and the staff was very accommodating to our schedule.
One note about the Coren Moore styles, if you have a pregnant bridesmaid who is usually a size 12-14, then you should order extra fabric. My BM Bridget is almost 6 feet tall and usually is a size 12, but the maternity sizes are only S-XL. The XL was not large enough for an almost 8 months pregnant Bridget. So, we ordered an extra yard of fabric ($30) and a seamstress put it in the back of the dress on either side of the zipper.

Suits, Waldorf Tux (East Providence, RI)
It was really easy working with Waldorf. They allow your GM to enter their measurements online, which for us, was huge because many of our GM lived OOT. The only prob was they gave us tuxedo shirts, no plain white button-downs, so we had to get these at the last minute. I picked up all the suits on Thursday, so we were able to have the shop replace the shirts--we had enough time. They were very accommodating and fixed the problem. The suits fit great and looked fab!

Room Block: Hampton Inn (Route 114A, Seekonk, MA)
No problems at all! They gave us a good rate (around $100 for double occupancy), but the only thing is the room block closes out 30 days prior to the event. I never asked about that and they never told me, so I did have some BP members and guests that waited too long to book and didn't get the rate. So, these people who weren't in the "block" weren't on their list for OOT bags, so I asked around at the rehearsal to make sure people went back to the hotel and asked for their bags. Other than that, everybody in the block got their OOT bags.

Transportation (First Student, Providence)
Great! They were a little hard to get a hold of by email at times, but I blame that on my work's firewall. They don't require a deposit, which was weird for me because I was worried they wouldn't show up, but my school deals w/ them all of the time and my secretaries assured me they always show! Lots of girls have asked me to send them pricing info, but it varies depending on mileage, etc. so it's hard to do. We didn't have major mileage--only about 6-7 miles ot and from the venue, so, for us, it was under $400 to have the wedding party and guests shuttled to & from the wedding. They did 2 trips for us before the wedding and then shuttled from 11-12:30 for us.

Rehearsal Dinner: Francis Farm clambake (Rehoboth, MA):
Great too!!! The only thing was we booked an outdoor setting (tented) and the guests had to walk far to get to the bar--well, not FAR, but it wasn't in the same area....there was another party that was able to have the bar in their space and we had to walk around their party in a side door to get to the bar. It was a perfect venue for a relaxed, summertime clambake.

Beauty Day for BP (Mani/Pedi) Tranquil Waters (Seekonk, MA):
NOT RECOMMENDED!
*Sorry this is long, but for good reason.**
I wish I could give Tranquil Waters a good review because I've had a good experience there before, and there were bits & pieces of their service which was good, but overall, I was disappointed. I booked Tranquil Waters due to its proximity and because it had 4 pedicure and 5 manicure stations and its spa-like atmosphere.

I booked the salon months ago and signed a contract and paid the required 50% of the full amount. On the day we arrived, the first problem was their computer had 3 of my girls in for appointments at 9 am and my contract on had two (with others coming in the next hour). THEY filled out the contract and gave it to me, luckily I had it with me. They were arguing that I was lying. I had their handwriting right there for them to see. They never really admitted it was their error. They kept saying stuff like "Well, we had a "Kate" for 9 am, so now we don't know who is who..." etc. This was their fault, no ours. All of my girls were there at the time they gave me on the contract.

Then, one of the nail techs (who is a sweetheart and deserved a better place to work) told us that there has been a lot of turnover and girls quitting and they were short-staffed for us. They only had 2 women who could do French manicures. They had one of the receptionists start 3 of my girls and then the sweetheart nail tech finished them. The "starter" lady sucked. She didn't clip cuticiles, my sister's nails were filed crooked...Apparently this lady was a retired stylist and did nails & hair for 20 years...well, it didn't show.

The other thing that happened was 2 girls in my party ended up not getting French manicures because their nails were too short. So, I asked the manager to take this off the bill (they charge more for French, which is ridiculous, but whatever...). She didnt want to. She said because I had already paid 50%, it was processed through the computer system and they couldn't change it. Well, I was insistant and said that the service wasn't technically paid for yet and I wasn't paying for a service the girls didn't receive. She still didn't understand--or didn't want to understand. Finally, I said more about how disappointing this is to have to deal with the day before my wedding and she finally did it.

Then, this is THE kicker. I booked a wash & blow out for my hair. I get this done a lot at a lot of different salons. I love getting a professional blow out and i Have never ever had such a BAD service. Remember the retired stylist lady?? Well, the employees were sort of scrambling as some of my girls were finishing their pedicures & pointing to me. She walked up to me and said "Uh, what is it that you want done with your hair, an updo?" I said No, I want a wash & Blow out. She looked at me weird. She said "What?" I said "A blow out, blown out straight with a big round brush?? I have naturally curly hair and want to get it nice and smooth." She still looked confused. Then she washed my hair (which was so weird. I just knew she had no idea what she was doing, she touch my hair so soft, she barely touched me. It was not normal.) Then, when she blow dried my hair, she just pushed it around.....it was HORRIBLE. The other stylist in the hair area was watching her in horror too (while she was working on another client) My hair was like a GIANT BALL of frizz on my head.  I have super thick hair and it was so big and frizzy. Usually, a stylist clips the hair up and works from the bottom of the hair up, section by section. She didn't do this. 3/4 of the way through, I SHOWED her how to do this. It looked so horrible. My friends came up to me and just gave me that look of "ewwww."

Then, one of my friends told me that the manicurist told her that they only have one hair dresser there and the womn doing my hair was clueless. Well, this was clear. I was not paying $50 for this crappy hair. So, I talked ot the manager in private. I told her how the woman had no idea what the term "blow out" meant, she pushed my hair around, I had to SHOW her, and LOOK at my hair! She said they could fix it. I said no, I have been here for 4 hrs, I don't have time, I will have to go home and fix it and I'm not paying $50 to do my own hair. She ended up taking it off the bill.

Long story short: Don't go here. They don't have the staff to accommodate a big group AND the people they have arent good at these services AND they're overpriced for sub-par services.

Sorry, Tranquil Waters, I was not impressed and your services made me stressed, not tranquil.

1. Take a sleeping pill after your rehearsal and don't drink too much that night! Learn from my mistake! I drank margaritas and the tequila didn't treat me well the next morning! I had a major headache and upset stomach. I also went to bed at midnight and only slept until 4 am.....Oh well.

2. Have a/your seamstress on call! One of my BMs tried her dress on after we got home from the rehearsal and when her husband tried to unzip her, he broke the zipper! So, we had to run out the morning of the wedding, buy a zipper and bring it to the seamstress. If we didn't have her # on hand, then who knows what would've happened!?!? Luckily, the wedding was in the evening, so we had time. Jean, our seamstress, had the dress back to us by 2 pm!

3. Have a later afternoon/evening ceremony if you can...I cannot tell you how nice it was to have all morning/afternoon to get ready. We never felt rushed. We ended up not taking bridal party pics w/ me & the girls before the wedding because we did run out of time, but the guys did instead of us, so it worked out fine.

4. Make detailed timelines for everyone involved--your BP, your venue's manager, your family.

5. Have someone give your vendors their final payments on the day of (if this is what they require). My dad prepared envelopes for these people and while i was getting into my dress, etc, he paid those people.

6. Have your caterers/venue manager put comfy shoes for you under your sweetheart table for the reception.

7. Do a short receiving line. We did one with just us--bride & groom. This enabled us to be able to enjoy our reception from our sweetheart table more. With an outdoor ceremony, it was a little difficult getting people to follow the line, but it was worth it. We made it a point to visit people at their tables who didn't make it through the line.

8. Do a little extra for your BMs on the weekend of the wedding--like buying everybody breakfast, or Starbucks, or lunch, or snacks, bottles of water, etc. They will appreciate it soooo much! Also, have some bottles of water for your vendors that will be with you prior to the wedding--photog, makeup, video, etc.

9. Hire vendors you trust and have formed a connection & relationship with. People kept asking me the 2-3 weeks prior to the wedding if I was stressed or nervous. I wasn't. I was just excited. I had complete faith in all of the people we chose to make our event happen. I trusted their professionalism and judgment. I was able to just focus on my enjoyment on the two days of the wedding weekend.

10. Bring a copy of your invitation to your wedding day so your photog can shoot it! I forgot this--even though I had written it on my To-Do list!!! Luckily, our venue's owner, my best friend's mom, had her invite and I gave that one to my photographer.

11. Make sure you assign people to round up your family members after the ceremony for pictures.

12. I didn't prepare a list of must-takes and I don't regret this, but I don't have any formals of us with my husband's family except for the big group shot, so that is kind of a bummer, but oh well.... so, my suggestion is have a list of family must-takes for sure!

13. Dance the night away!!!! Our band manager told me 3 days before the wedding when we were chatting on the phone "Everybody knows where the girl in the white dress is...you set the tone for dancing." I love dancing anyway, so usually at weddings, that is where I am, but it is so tempting to walk around and have all of your favorite people in the world (remember, they're all there!) talking your ear off! I am a talker too, so this was hard for me. I made it priority to dance all night! Michael and I were sweaty beasts by the time the night ended! I have no regrets! Dancing the night away was one of the best pieces if advice I got!

14. Wear spanx (the power panties)--not for slimming, but to make your upper thighs comfortable!!! If you're like me (and I hope most red-blooded American women!) your thighs love each other and like to touch underneath skirts, etc. Wearing Spanx to form a barrier was a LIFESAVER!

15. Drink only CLEAR liquids! I am a bit of a sloppy girl sometimes...I spill a lot! I love my Cosmos and fun martinis, but I had none of that on the wedding night! I stuck to champagne and it was perfect! It looked elegant in my hand (nothing is worst than a beautiful bride holding a bottle of Bud, IMO! he he he) and I have no evidence of spills!

16. Take quick pics and bustle up and get to your cocktail hour!!! We only had about 15 minutes at cocktail hour, but we were able to mingle and eat some of our food!

17. Spend some quality time with your parents sometime during the night. My dad's birthday (the big 60th!) was the Monday after the wedding and I felt bad we would miss it for the honeymoon. So, after our parent dance, I had Corin give me the mic and I wished my dad Happy Bday and then the band played a rockin version of Happy Birthday. My whole family danced together on the dace floor and we had this very emotional group hug! Also, before we left the house to start the wedding, my parents gave me big hugs & kisses.

18. Enjoy every second. I made a conscious decision to soak up every second. I did have my moments of anxiety as I knew I would because I get so nervous sometime, but I had to snap back into reality and realize the purpose of the day. I mentally memorized every moment!! Someone told me once that she locked eyes w/ her hubby the whole time up the aisle, so I did this too. I didn't really look at the guests too much. I am so glad. My husband was so emotional and I definitely didn't expect him to be so moved. It was wonderful.
*****
That's all for now! I will probably have more thoughts later & probably forgot some vendors....

Some Planning Tips:
 1. Be tight lipped. If you don't want critical comments from friends & family (and for some reason people feel inclined to say exactly what they think concerning weddings), then don't share too many details with people leading up to the wedding.

2. Start early, but be sure of your choices. I did the majority of my DIY work during my February school vacation from teaching. But, I had wanted to do it the summer beforehand....I held off in case my mind changed. It did in a few ways and one week was plenty of time to get most of my stuff done. (I couldn't do my programs and place cards until 3 weeks before the wedding though)

3. Give yourself a STOP DAY. I read this in another Knottie's bio and it was great advice. I stopped the Tuesday before the wedding. Whatever was done, was done, no more projects, no more ideas. I picked up my gown & brought it to the venue w/ the rest of my stuff on Wed and just sat back & enjoyed.

4. The details and hard work will pay off!!! I can't even tell you how many people came up to me durig the cocktail hour and reception and said to me things like:
"You thought of everything!"
"So many details!"
"Everything is all coordinated and well thought out!"

A few days after the wedding, one of our guests emailed this to our venue & my mother in law.......I know it's so AW, but I have to!!!! ;)

I was very lucky to be a guest at Tracy and Michael's wedding
this past Saturday (7/12/08). Having never been to Five Bridge Inn, I
wasn't sure what to expect. Everything was quite magical!
It isn't often that I feel so inclined to send such a note, but
Saturday was so special that I would like to share some thoughts.
The Inn itself, the grounds, the tent and all the gardens certainly
set the stage for such a beautiuful event. We were blessed with perfect weather. It
was about 80 degrees, the sun was shining and there was a caribbean
like breeze blowing across the property.

I watched the photographers trying to capture pictures of Tracy's
vail as the wind would take it up like a sail. I can't wait to see
one of those pictures!

Everywhere I looked, I saw all of Tracy's work and attention to
detail. She certainly was busy for all the months up to her day.
Certainly I have seen many printed programs at weddings, but never a
buckets with fans in it saying "beat the heat" or dancing shoes for
the women that would eventually kick off those new shoes that become
too uncomfortable!

Place cards are usually found on a table but no, Tracy knew that it
could be windy and attached them to something similar to a clothes
line. When a staff member asked if I had my place card and I didn't
as of yet, she pointed to the cards blowing in the wind. I smiled and
thought, another detail covered....thanks Tracy.

The food and drink was superb. Don't tell anyone, but I think that I
helped myself to more than my share of shrimp at the raw bar.The
staff orchestrated perfectly without a hint of stress or confusion.
There was a photo booth for all those that wanted to create new
memories and a penny candy bar for us to revisit our childhood.

We were entertained throughout the evening, first by the minister who
certainly had spent the time with Tracy and Michael to be able to
tell their story for those of us who needed to hear it again and then
by the musicians. I can understand why someone would wait two years for "Flipside"
......everyone danced at this wedding!

I could go on but let me just say, that this was one of the nicest weddings that I have ever attended. Thank you to the folks at Five Bridge Inn and the incredible work of
Tracy G!
Sincerely, John C
